Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive lineman Tristan Wirfs had a great response about whether he had Tom Brady’s phone number. Wednesday, the Bucs quarterback hilariously rectified the situation.

Everything started with Wirfs saying he didn’t have Brady’s phone number in a press conference this week, adding he didn’t think he’d reached that level yet.

“I don’t have Tom’s number,” Wirfs said. “I don’t think I’m there yet.”

Brady retweeted the clip of the quote and posted a text exchange with it. It included a clever way to make sure Wirfs had his quarterback’s number.

That’s certainly one way to get your number to someone.

Wirfs is getting ready for his third season with the Buccaneers after they drafted him No. 13 overall out of Iowa in the 2020 NFL Draft. It’ll also be Brady’s third season with Tampa Bay as he hopes to add to his storied career. He famously announced his retirement before doing an about-face and returning to the Buccaneers last month.

It’s been an interesting offseason for Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Brady initially announced his retirement in February before Super Bowl LVI, but declared his return before Selection Sunday last month — showing just how much of a whirlwind it was. Now 46, he’s trying to build on his first couple years in Tampa Bay, the first of which ended with a Super Bowl LV title.

But he’ll have a new head coach, as well. Bruce Arians stepped away late last month and defensive coordinator Todd Bowles is replacing him. That means Brady will likely work closely with Byron Leftwich to build and run the offense. However, there were rumors about the relationship between Brady and Arians, especially toward the end, and how that impact Brady’s initial decision to retire. In fact, FOX Sports’ Jay Glazer reported Arians’ move to the front office played a role in Brady’s decision to come back for another year.
