South Florida head coach Alex Golesh wasn’t interested in exchanging pleasantries with FAU head coach Tom Herman after the Bulls defeated the Owls 44-21 on Friday. As is tradition, the two coaches met at midfield to shake each other’s hand after the game.

Golesh obliged but didn’t stop to talk with Herman and kept walking immediately after shaking his hand. Herman took exception to the slight and chased after Golesh through the crowd of coaches and players. After exchanging a few words, the two coaches were ushered away from one another.

Following the heated exchange, many fans took to social media to point out that Golesh’s icy demeanor may have been due to Herman’s decision to run up the score in FAU’s 56-14 win over USF last season. After all, Golesh seemingly returned the favor on Friday.

In the win, the Bulls scored 13 points in the fourth quarter alone despite already boasting a 10-point lead. USF finished the game with 525 total yards of offense and didn’t commit a single turnover.

Bulls quarterback Bryce Archie led the charge, completing 19-of-his-32 pass attempts for 206 yards and two touchdowns. Not to be outdone, USF running back Nay’Quan Wright added 117 rushing yards and a TD to the Bulls’ winning effort.

Golesh is in his second season as USF’s head coach. With the win, the Bulls improved to 4-4 and 2-2 in conference play. Meanwhile, Herman’s Owls have a disastrous start to conference play, sitting with a 0-4 record against AAC opponents and 2-6 overall.

It’s a rivalry that could have much more to give in the foreseeable future. The two coaches not only battle on the gridiron but also on the recruiting trail, with many of their targets in each other’s backyards.

For now, Alex Golesh can smile knowing he exacted revenge. Nevertheless, it’s safe to assume Tom Herman won’t forget Golesh’s actions anytime soon.
