Four-star cornerback Tony Mitchell of Alabaster (Ala.) narrowed his list to 10 schools on Thursday. Mitchell said Alabama, Florida State, Clemson, Oregon, Texas A&M, Ohio State, LSU, Georgia, Miami and Florida.

The 6-foot-2, 185-pound 2023 prospect announced a top 12 in March. Mitchell removed Auburn, Texas, Michigan, and USC with that update. Miami and Texas A&M have now been added as contenders in Mitchell’s recruitment, and he has more than 30 scholarship offers from many of the nation’s top programs.

The On300 prospect had a busy summer with visits to schools all over the country.

Since the month of June, Tony Mitchell visited multiple schools, such as Miami last weekend. Mitchell told On3’s Chad Simmons that September will be key in his recruitment.

“I am starting to narrow down my list of schools to get to where I need to be,” Mitchell told Simmons. “After Sept. 1, when schools can really recruit the 2023 class, is when I will really get a better feel for who is really interested in. I will learn a lot more early in September.”

Tony Mitchell ready for big season

With a very productive sophomore campaign that included 82 tackles, four interceptions (two for touchdowns) and eight pass breakups, Mitchell looks to start right where he finished and lead Thompson High School to another state championship.

“Right now I’m focused on winning another state championship with my team and getting better every day rather than my recruitment,” Tony Mitchell said. “I’m going to take my time with the process and make sure I’m making the right decision.”

In 2019, Mitchell helped Thompson to a 12-1 record and the Alabama 7A state championship. He had 64 tackles, four tackles for a loss, four pass breakups, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and one interception in 2019.

Mitchell is committed to play in the 2023 Under Armour All-America Game.
