Every quarterback needs a dependable go-to target, the kind who can go up and win 50-50 battles or can break away in the open field, so On3 has taken the liberty of ranking the top 10 wide receivers in college football ahead of 2023.

With spring practice set to begin, the outlook for each team is becoming clearer. Below are the top 10 wide receivers ahead of the 2023 season, according to On3.

Top 10 Wide Receivers in College Football

1. Marvin Harrison Jr., Ohio State: CJ Stroud will be one of the top quarterback picks in this year’s NFL Draft, and he can certainly thank his receivers for plenty of help. Harrison was a massive part of Stroud’s success, dependable even when injuries took away other weapons on the Ohio State offense. He finished his season with 77 catches for 1,263 yards and 14 touchdowns in 2022 and will be back to do it again this fall.

2. Xavier Worthy, Texas: The Longhorns star didn’t quite match his 2021 productivity, though some of that is almost certainly attributable to the injuries Texas had at quarterback. Still, Worthy is one of those receivers who seems to haul in anything thrown his direction. He finished 2022 with 60 catches for 760 yards and nine touchdowns.

3. Emeka Egbuka, Ohio State: Speaking of those Ohio State weapons, Egbuka was another one that made life on Stroud quite easy last year. Egbuka managed to record 74 catches for 1,151 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also showed some versatility by taking the ball out of the backfield at times, racking up 11 carries for 87 yards on the ground.

4. Rome Odunze, Washington: The Huskies didn’t get as much love nationally as some of the other potent offenses, but Washington was downright lethal at times. One of Michael Penix Jr.‘s favorite targets was Odunze, who managed to tally 75 catches for 1,145 yards and seven touchdowns as a sophomore. He’ll be back for more in 2023.

5. Ainias Smith, Texas A&M: Smith didn’t put up the kind of numbers that the others on this top 10 wide receivers list did after suffering a season-ending injury, but he is every bit the kind of breakaway talent we look for here. Texas A&M’s revolving door at quarterback might have limited Smith anyway, but that appears to be mostly sorted out going into 2023, which means Smith could have a big year.

6. Malik Nabers, LSU: The standout receiver for the Tigers last season, Nabers topped the 1,000-yard mark in an LSU offense that didn’t really kick things fully into gear until late in the season. Even so Nabers finished with 72 catches for 1,017 yards and three touchdowns. He’ll be counted on for even more this fall.

7. Johnny Wilson, Florida State: Easily one of the most physically impressive receivers on this list, Wilson is a monster at 6 foot 7, 235 pounds. His ability to go up and pluck it out of the air over defenders is top-notch. And more importantly, quarterback Jordan Travis is back for another year. Wilson finished 2022 with 43 catches for 897 yards and five touchdowns. He could be in for more in 2023.

8. Dorian Singer, USC: Singer played well enough for Arizona in 2022 to parlay his strong campaign into a more attractive transfer portal destination. After hitting the portal, he wound up at USC where he’ll have the luxury of catching passes from Caleb Williams, though Jayden de Laura was certainly no slouch either. Singer was excellent last fall, racking up 66 catches for 1,105 yards and six touchdowns with the Wildcats.

9. Antwane Wells Jr., South Carolina: After posting 1,250 yards at James Madison in 2021, Wells transferred to South Carolina and proved he could also do it on the big stage. He was a key target for quarterback Spencer Rattler, who didn’t really hit his stride until late in the season. If things stay in sync, Wells could improve on his 2022 campaign, where he finished with 68 catches for 928 yards and six touchdowns.

10. Jalen McMillan, Washington: Another of Washington’s elite targets for Penix, McMillan nearly matched his teammate’s output in the receiving column. He recorded 79 catches for 1,098 yards and nine touchdowns, helping power a Huskies offense that threw it all over the yard all year long.
