Jordan Matthews, a member of the On3 Top 100 for the Class of 2023, said he landed a scholarship offer from Penn State on Tuesday.

Matthews – ranked as the No. 96 player in the country – shared the news about the offer in a social media post. The four-star recruit from Baton Rouge (La.) Woodlawn said he was “blessed and honored to receive an offer from Penn State University” in the tweet. The offer is the junior’s 21 reported offer.

Jordan Matthews, who is 6-foot and 165 pounds, already has a long list of scholarship offers, including from schools like LSU, Cal, Kentucky, Michigan, TCU, Tennessee and Texas. Most of those offers came in May. He was also offered by Michigan State on Aug. 15 and Indiana on Aug. 13.

Matthews did take several unofficial visits this summer, including to Texas’ Pool Party recruiting event in early August.

While the Penn State offer is the newest to his list, it might take a lot to get him to leave the region and even the state of Louisiana.

LSU is believed to be the heavy favorite to land Matthews’ commitment. The Tigers offered him in early June, and he told 247 Sports that LSU was his “dream offer.”

Roshaun Matthews, Jordan’s father, played for the Tigers in the 1990s.

Matthews said the school he commits to will have a good combination of high-level academics, a good campus and great competition.

Scouting Jordan Matthews

On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power says Jordan Matthews is worthy of such a high ranking.

“Jordan Matthews is a good-sized, fluid cornerback who has shown continual improvement over the past year,” Power said. “He’s younger for the class and has impressed on the camp circuit this offseason. Matthews is technically sound with the ability to flip his hips and transition in coverage.

“We’re looking forward to seeing that progression on the field this fall.”

Along with the football talents, Matthews was part of 4×200 relay team that won a Louisiana Class 5A state championship with a 1:26:15 time.
