Tallahassee (Fla.) John Paul II Catholic safety Makari Vickers has amassed offers from all over the country, and he is now down to just eight schools, he announced Saturday.

Vickers is the No. 82 overall prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the nation’s No. 8 safety and the No. 17 junior in the state of Florida.

Among his top eight are some of the country’s biggest programs, including Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, Miami, Michigan, Oklahoma, Oregon and Texas.

The 6-foot-1, 189-pounder has already locked in official visits to three of his top eight schools. He’ll trip to Oklahoma on June 3 for the Sooners’ big visit weekend of the summer. Vickers will then head to Alabama June 16 and Texas on June 24.

Alabama is currently the leader for his commitment, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM). It gives the Crimson Tide a 36.7 percent chance of landing Vickers, with Florida State (21.6%), Texas (18.5%) and Oklahoma (15.4%) trailing slightly behind.

Florida State the fourth team in the mix for Makari Vickers

Despite not having an official visit locked in, the hometown Seminoles are working hard to keep Vickers home. Vickers and a handful of teammates made a couple of unofficial visits to watch the Seminoles practice this spring. While an official visit isn’t likely as of today, Vickers will step foot on campus prior to making a decision in late August.

“That’s the hometown team, so FSU is definitely there,” he told On3’s Gerry Hamilton last week.
