Four-star defensive lineman Kelby Collins of Gardendale (Ala.) High has narrowed his list to five schools—Georgia, Alabama, Oklahoma, South Carolina, and Florida.

The 6-foot-5, 260 pounder went in-depth on his finalists.

Georgia

“Every time I go down there they treat me like family,” Collins said. “I’m really close with all the coaches and I feel like they have a plan for me. Coach Smart and the assistant D-Line coaches will use my speed by moving me around a lot.

Alabama

“I grew up an Alabama fan,” Collins said. “They’re close to home, about 45 minutes to an hour down the road. I like Coach Saban and Coach Roach, and I feel like they have a great plan for me as well. They put players in the league every year, first-round, second-round, regardless you’ll go to the league if you go to Bama I feel like.

Oklahoma

“Basically all the coaches came from Clemson,” Collins said. “At first Clemson was one of my favorite schools and they all left. I feel like when I get down to Oklahoma for my official, me and the coaches won’t skip a beat and I’ll feel at home with those same coaches, but at a different school.”

South Carolina

“I like the way Coach Beamer has changed the program,” Collins said. “I feel like they can be a Top 10 program if they bring in players like me. Coach has something special going on, and Coach Lindsey has a real plan for me the way he wants to use me as an edge rusher.”

Florida

“I had a long talk with Coach Clark and it really opened my eyes,” Collins said. “They have a real need for me at the edge spot, as they’re losing a lot of guys. As far as NIL, they said that they want something that has never been done before, something that’s just branded around my name. No school has told me that, so that just blew me away.”

Kelby Collins ranks as the No. 50 player in the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that accounts for all four major recruiting sites. He also tabs in as the No. 7 defensive lineman and the eighth-best player in the state of Alabama.
