Jalen Reed, a 6-foot-10 power forward out of Castaic (CA) Southern California Academy, has received his release from Florida and will reopen his recruitment, he tells On3.

“2022 has brought many changes and after much consideration, I have decided to reopen my recruitment. I am open to the many possibilities while still considering The University of Florida as my college home,” Reed said in a statement to On3.

Reed is ranked as the No. 68 overall prospect in the 2022 On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. On3’s evaluators are much higher on Reed, ranking him as 45th overall prospect in the class.

Reed committed to the Gators in late October, before signing during the early period in November. He chose Florida over Ole Miss, Arizona State, Maryland, and Oklahoma.

About a month ago, former Florida head coach Mike White became Georgia’s next head basketball coach, replacing Tom Crean. The Gators have since hired Todd Golden from San Francisco.

Malik Reneau, the No. 29 overall prospect in the On3 2022 Consensus also decommitted from Florida a few weeks ago.

Three-star combo guard Denzel Aberdeen is now Florida’s one and only signee of the 2022 class.

Florida’s new staff has hit the transfer portal and have landed commitments from LSU’s Alex Fudge and Belmont’s Will Richard.
