'Total package' C.J. Carr makes splash at UA Next Camp Series Columbus

COLUMBUS – Sunday saw the Under Armour Camp make the trek up to the midwest. Some of the region’s best players made the trip to Columbus trying to battle for an invitation to the game at the end of the year. The quarterbacks were of abundance on Sunday. The lineman made a splash as well.

One quarterback took home On3’s MVP.

On3 MVP: QB C.J. Carr (2024)

Saline (Mich.) junior quarterback C.J. Carr was in his own lane on Sunday.

The rising junior quarterback earned an invite to the 2024 Under Armour Game with his performance on Sunday.

Carr showcased a powerful arm, twitchy movement in the pocket and some swagger. Coaches touted Carr as the ‘complete package’ throughout the event. Carr’s intangibles were one of his more impressive attributes to the coaches working the camp on Sunday.

“You can tell he’s an ultimate competitor, he knew what to do on every drill and he’s competing each drill against himself and the other guys,” Mike McCarthy of M2 QB Academy told On3. “He’s a natural bord leader. He does a good job creating comradery with the group even if he doesn’t know the guys. He’s got a lot of offers and is starting to get a lot of attention and he could choose to start acting a certain way but he doesn’t He’s open to everyone. He’s also very receptive to coaching.”

The physical traits stood out too.

“He tempos the ball really well, he can drive the far hash post and the far hash comeback,” McCarthy said. “He can also layer and 10 to 15-yard dig with some touch. The deep balls, fades and throwing off-platform and you get a little bit of stuff with different arm angles from him. He’s really the complete package. The complete package is rare for sure.”

2. QB Tad Hudson (2023)

North Carolina has landed their signal-caller of the future in Corneilius (N.C.) William Amos Hough quarterback Tad Hudson.

The No. 413 overall prospect in the On3 Consensus rankings committed to the Tar Heels way back in August of 2021. Hudson showcased why his home state program is sold on him early in the process.

Hudson possesses a lot of the same abilities touted by the Tar Heels’ most recent quarterback Sam Howell. He is 6-foot-3 and nearly 220 pounds. He moved around like a much smaller quarterback.

Hudson threw from multiple platforms and showcase the ability to reach any portion of the field.

3. WR Ryan Pellum (2024)

Long Beach (Calif.) Millikan wide receiver Ryan Pellum showed up and showcased why he was one of the top players in the class of 2024.

He picked up an invite to the 2024 Under Armour Game. Pellum has a four-way tie at the top of his Recruiting Prediction Machine ratings at the moment with Oregon, Ohio State, Michigan and Texas A&M with a 9.1 percent chance of landing the four-star.

4. OL Amir Herring (2023)

West Bloomfield (Mich.) offensive lineman Amir Herring showed why he is one of the top-ranked offensive linemen in Michigan.

Herring is the No. 224 overall prospect in the On3 Consensus rankings. Sunday he won every repetition in pass protection. He turned a defensive lineman and drove him into the ground on one snap.

Herring is built powerfully and he packs a loud thump when hitting the bags. Michigan is RPM’s leader with a 92.5 percent chance to land the four-star in-state lineman.

5. EDGE Jalen Thompson (2023)

Detroit (Mich.) Cass Technical edge Jalen Thompson is ranked as the No. 193 overall prospect in the On3 Consensus rankings for the class of 2023.

Thompson moved really well throughout drills. Has long arms with more room to add size and strength. Michigan State holds a lead in Thompson’s RPM ratings with a 73.6 percent chance of keeping him in-state.

6. CB Bryce West (2024)

Cleveland (Ohio) Glenville cornerback Bryce West was one of the top defensive backs at the event on Sunday. He is ranked the No. 23 overall prospect in the On3 Consensus rankings for the class of 2024.

He was close in coverage in most of his one-on-one opportunities. West kept making his way onto the field. He took as many reps as he could.

RPM is a heavy Ohio State lean for West.

7. OL Luke Burgess (2023)

New Palestine (Ind.) Luke Burgess is the No. 265 ranked player in the consensus. On3 has him ranked at No. 147 overall.

At 6-foot-8 Burgess is agile. He moved through the drills well and showcased some power to go along with his size. In-state Indiana and Iowa are battling at the top of his recruitment according to RPM.

8. QB Ryan Montgomery (2025)

Findlay (Ohio) quarterback Ryan Montgomery is only a rising sophomore but already holds an impressive list of offers. His older brother Luke Montgomery recently committed to Ohio State. The younger Montgomery brother already holds an offer from the Buckeyes.

They are tied with Michigan for the lead in his RPM rating.

On Sunday, Montgomery threw the ball with pop throughout the day. He has some solid athleticism when avoiding during drills. Montgomery is also gifted with the size and strength his brother possesses. He is already around 6-foot-3 or taller as a sophomore.

9. OL Austin Siereveld (2023)

Cincinnati (Ohio) Lakota East offensive lineman Austin Siereveld is the No. 137 overall prospect in the On300 rankings. Sunday he showcased some versatility.

He moved like a tackle and took a few reps during pass protection. against edge players. He did not look like a player carrying 315 pounds. Siereveld then showcased the ability to anchor against bigger interior players as well.

RPM has Ohio State and Notre Dame battling at the top of Siereveld’s recruitment. The Buckeyes hold a 98.7 percent chance of landing the four-star.

10. WR Anthony Brown (2023)

Springfield (Ohio) wide receiver Anthony Brown is an electric playmaker. He consistently looked twitchy throughout the day.

Brown is the No. 382 overall prospect in the On3 Consensus rankings for the class of 2023. Maryland is his RPM favorite at the moment with a 17.7 percent chance to land Brown.
