Trentyn Flowers is the No. 8 player in the 2024 On3 150. The 6-foot-8 wing recently transferred to Lincolnton (NC) Combine Academy. Flowers averaged 13.5 points on 58.3 percent shooting during Nike’s Peach Jam, playing with the Strive for Greatness program.

“I’m really working on my handle,” Flowers told On3. “Putting the ball on the floor, creating, bringing the ball up the floor. Developing into a true guard, someone who is able to compliment someone like Silas (Demary).”

On3 caught up with Trentyn Flowers at the Carmel Christian Tip-Off Classic to talk about his recruitment.

“I’ve taken four official visits so far,” Flowers said. “Georgia State, Oklahoma, Creighton, and Louisville.

Flowers talks visits

Creighton: “I’ve followed them a lot, so this visit for me was about spending time with the coaching staff. Taking the time to get to know them a lot more, hanging out with Coach Greg (McDermott) and Coach Jalen (Courtney-Williams). I already knew a lot about them going in, but I was able to get to know them as people being there.”

Oklahoma: “They love how versatile I am as a player, with my size and guard skills. They showed me how I fit into their system and what I could bring to the program.”

Georgia State: “They’re obviously a mid-major school, so that was a bit different, but I like to ride my own wave. So if I can go somewhere and o my thing for a year and then go to the league, that’s really what I’m looking at. Coach (Jonas) Hayes is like family and is a great dude.”

Louisville: “The atmosphere at their midnight madness was amazing. They had Jack Harlow out there, and the team was real good to be around. It was just really good being around and being able to talk with Coach KP (Kenny Payne) and Coach Nolan (Smith). It was a good time for sure on that visit.”

“Being real, I don’t think I’m going to take any more visits,” Flowers said. “I’m still debating about taking them my senior year or not. As of now, I’m focused on the season and making sure we win. That list of 13 is finalized, and I am going to be dropping my list to five or six here shortly, in the next month or so.”

Flowers’ take

“Really, I’m just going to be looking for a place that I can be myself on and off the court,” Flowers said. “A home away from home, and a place where my game will fit best with their style.

“I’m going to look at the style of play and how each program plays a guy like me. That is why I’m taking the visits I am, to get a closer look at that. I want to play fast, but also for a coach that will use my versatility; allow me to play on and off the ball.”

Scouting report

Trentyn Flowers has a great frame with solid length and positional size. In the 6-foot-8 range, Flowers is a fluid athlete with explosive pop that shows around the rim. Flowers has smooth mechanics on his jump shot, with a high and consistent release. In game, his balance can get a little off, which leads to some misses, but overall he is a threat from beyond the arc. Flowers will need to continue adding weight. He has shown a toughness on the boards and instincts in the passing lanes. His decision-making will need to tighten as he can get sped up at times, but that will come as he continues to get more game reps. Flowers has a unique skill set for a player his size; he has grown more than five inches since entering high school. Incredible upside with a player who is already producing.
