Ty-Laur Johnson is the 2023 On3 Consensus No. 66 player in the class. The 6-foot-0 senior is the No. 3 remaining point guard in his class.

The Bronx (NY) Our Savior Lutheran senior has taken four senior year official visits; Pittsburgh (9/1), Fordham (9/17), Ole Miss (9/23), and NC State (10/08).

As things are winding down in his recruitment, a program is trending out in front. Let’s go through the intel and rank the contenders for Ty-Laur Johnson.

1. NC State

NC State got the final visit. They were later than the other groups getting involved (offered September 24), but they came in with a fire to make it known Johnson was a priority.

NC State’s chances: 85 percent

2. Pittsburgh

Johnson took his visit to Pittsburgh on September 1. They were the first offer from these four schools, and Johnson played on the NY Rens travel team with Panther Associate head coach Tim O’Toole’s son.

Pittsburgh’s chances: 10 percent

3. Fordham

Fordham was able to get Johnson on a visit in middle September. They are a local school for Johnson and shot their shot.

Fordham’s chances: 5 percent

Final thoughts

Kevin Keatts and crew came in late, but they came in hot. As the Silas Demary, Jr. recruitment wore down, they went all in with Johnson. Assistant Joel Justus flew up multiple times to see the four-star point guard.

The system fit is there, as Johnson fits the free-flowing style of play Keatts loves. All returns from the visit heck the boxes Johnson was looking for. This would be NC State’s first commitment in the 2023 class.

Recruiting is never over until the ink dries; however, as of pressing ‘publish’ on this article, Ty-Laur Johnson is trending heavily toward NC State.
