The NFL preseason is a beautiful place of opportunity for backups in the league that get rare opportunities to shine. On Thursday night, a former Iowa Hawkeye star made the most of his. Tyler Goodson found the end zone for Green Bay after he had a beautiful spin move to the inside, making a few defenders miss on a 24-yard touchdown run.

The beautiful run put the Packers up 7-3 on the Chiefs early in the second quarter. The score is currently tied up at 10-10 at halftime. Thursday night’s matchup is being nationally televised on NFL Network.

Goodson was Iowa’s leading rusher since he arrived on campus in 2019. He became the first true freshman to ever lead the Hawkeyes in rushing that season. Last year, the junior posted 1,151 yards and six touchdowns. He also had 31 receptions for 247 yards and a receiving touchdown. He declared for the 2022 NFL Draft following the Big Ten Championship game and decided to opt out of the Citrus Bowl vs. Kentucky. The speedy running back went undrafted in the draft, but was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Packers.

During his prolific career with the Hawkeyes, Goodson rushed for 2,551 yards and 18 touchdowns. He also caught 70 passes during his three seasons there. The gifted tailback finished his college football career as the 9th all-time leading rusher in Iowa football history. He’ll be competing with Kylin Hill and Patrick Taylor for the backup job behind the likes of Aaron Jones and A.J. Dillon.

According to the On3 Consensus Rankings for the 2019 cycle, Goodson was ranked as the No. 55 running back in America and a three-star prospect. He was named the Georgia Player of the Year as a senior after he rushed for 159 times for 1,180 yards and 25 touchdowns. A dynamic athlete, he also lettered in baseball, basketball, and track during his high school days for North Gwinnett (Suwanee, Georgia).
