UAB is bringing in some SEC talent for their coaching staff. According to On3’s Matt Zenitz, former Kentucky quarterback Darin Hinshaw is joining the Blazers as an analyst.

“UAB is set to hire former Kentucky QB coach Darin Hinshaw as an analyst, sources tell @on3sports,” revealed Zenitz. “Hinshaw, who has also been a QB coach at Tennessee and Cincinnati and an OC at Georgia Southern and Middle Tennessee, was an analyst at UCF last season.”

Moreover, Hinshaw began his football journey as the quarterback of the UCF Knights. At the time, he ended his collegiate career as the all-time leader in passing yards and touchdowns for UCF. Afterwards, he bounced around multiple professional football leagues, ending his playing career in 1997.

Then, Hinshaw began the second part of his football career — coaching. First, the former UCF quarterback returned to the program he had so much success, joining the Knights as a graduate assistant in 1999. Quickly, he worked his way into a promotion, becoming their quarterbacks coach in 2000.

After beginning his career at UCF, Hinshaw bounced around multiple programs. In 2005, he was given his first chance to become an offensive coordinator, hired by Middle Tennessee State. Then, was hired by Georgia Southern as their offensive coordinator in 2006. Finally, Hinshaw worked his way into the SEC — joining Tennessee as their quarterbacks coach in 2010.

After a stint with Cincinnati, Hinshaw was hired by Kentucky as their co-offensive coordinator & quarterbacks coach in 2016. The former UCF quarterback would last in his post until 2020, as he returned to the Knights as an offensive analyst in 2021.

As you can see, Hinshaw has his fair share of experience in the football world.

More on Darin Hinshaw, UAB Blazers

Moreover, Darin Hinshaw is joining a UAB team coming off a tremendous season. The Blazers won nine games, including a victory over BYU in the Independence Bowl.

Since returning from a two-year hiatus, the program has been led by coach Bill Clark. He’s been fantastic for the Blazers, taking them at least eight wins in four of his five seasons as coach.

Now, Hinshaw is hoping to help the Blazers in their quest to improve even more. UAB looks to be on the rise, and they’re making the right hires to help take them to the next level.
