UCLA DB Scooter Jackson plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal. That comes according to those at On3.

On3’s Hayes Fawcett reported on his intention to enter the portal on Monday afternoon. He will do so with two years of eligibility to now play elsewhere.

“BREAKING: UCLA starting DB Scooter Jackson plans to enter the @TransferPortal, he tells @On3Sports,” Fawcett posted today.

Jackson just finished his lone season at UCLA. That’s after transferring in last offseason following two years, starting in every game he played in while there, spent at Utah Tech (FCS).

Last offseason, Jackson arrived as a Top-175 CB in the portal per On3’s Industry Ranking of 2025’s Top Transfer Portal Players. He came to Pasadena as one of nearly 30 transfer additions between the two portal cycles for the Bruins.

Appearing in all of the dozen games this season for UCLA, Jackson posted 44 total tackles, 1.5 being for loss, along with three pass deflections, two interceptions, and a forced fumble. That made him one of the leading defenders on their unit, as he was sixth for them in tackles, was tied for their third-most deflections, and had their most picks with the pair.

Jackson, a Compton native, played his high school football at Warren in Downey, California. He did so as a part of the 2023 recruiting cycle.

This will be another portal window this season for the Bruins, after one opened just for their roster back in September following the firing of DeShaun Foster. Jackson will now be one of the first in this one for UCLA, as he looks for another program upon its official opening on January 2nd.

UCLA expected to hire James Madison’s Bob Chesney

UCLA is expected to hire James Madison’s Bob Chesney, sources tell On3. The 48-year-old head coach has risen through the coaching ranks and was also a candidate in Penn State’s coaching search.

Chesney arrived at James Madison after Curt Cignetti’s departure, taking his coaching staff and most of his 11-win roster with him to Indiana. He’s gone 20-5 in his two seasons at James Madison. The Dukes are 11-1 this season and play Troy in the Sun Belt title game this weekend. Chesney is expected to coach in the College Football Playoff if the Dukes make the 12-team playoff.

It’s expected to be a five-year deal for Chesney in Westwood, which will be formalized following the Sun Belt title game. He’s informed his team on Monday of his intentions to take the Bruins job. He went 44-21 at Holy Cross prior to James Madison and 44-16 at Assumption College prior. He brought in 64 new players last offseason, finishing his first season 9-4.

UCLA fired coach DeShaun Foster in September following a winless start to the season. Foster, who was in his second year as the Bruins’ coach, went 5-10 during his short tenure. The move to hire Chesney comes outside of a traditional West Coast hire, but he has constantly won at every step of his head coaching career. He’s 131–51 as a college football head coach.
