Scary scenes occurred in Cincinnati during Thursday Night Football when Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa went down with an injury. After being stretched off the field, it was revealed Tagovailoa was suffering from head and neck injuries.

Just a week prior, Tagovailoa left Miami’s Week 2 matchup against Buffalo and was thought to have a concussion. The team called it back problem and he was cleared of any type of head issue. Tagovailoa played the entire second half and helped the Dolphins get a crucial win.

After Thursday’s moment, questions were asked of Miami and their concussion protocol testing. Now, there has been a move made according to a report. According to ESPN, the “unaffiliated neurotrauma consultant” involved in clearing Tagovailoa has been fired.

“The unaffiliated neurotrauma consultant involved in clearing Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa during Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills has been fired after it was found he made ‘several mistakes’ in his evaluation, a league source told ESPN,” the article said.

After the game was over, Tagovailoa was somehow released from the hospital and was able to travel home with the team. Even though that’s positive news, some kind of change will have to come from the NFL. While the consultant may have been “unaffiliated” with Miami, the scary scene should be enough to switch the approach to concussions.

Tua Tagovailoa releases statement after scary injury

A day after the incident, Tagovailoa released a statement. He thanked everybody for the prayers since he went down on the field and was adamant about how much better he felt. Of course, the only thing on the quarterback’s mind is getting back on the field with his teammates.

“I want to thank everyone for all their prayers and support since the game last night,” Tagovailoa said. “It was difficult to not be able to finish the game and be there with my teammates, but I am grateful for the support and care I’ve received from the Dolphins, my friends and family, and all the people who reached out. I’m feeling much better and focused on recovering so I can get back out on the field with my teammates.”
