The odds for each team to win the 2022 NCAA tournament have been updated following the recent addition of star recruit Emoni Bates to Memphis. CBS Sports’ Gary Parrish shared the new odds on Twitter, showcasing how far Memphis has risen in betting odds.

Memphis’ new 2022 NCAA tournament odds

Memphis basketball vaulted up the CBS Top 25 and 1 rankings after landing two of the top five recruits over the past month, pushing them into contention this season. Tigers head coach Penny Hardaway adds Emoni Bates and Jalen Duren to a veteran team, also adding Hall of Fame coach Larry Brown and former NBA star Rasheed Wallace to the staff.

With two more four-star recruits in Josh Minott and Johnathan Lawson along with transfers Earl Timberlake and Chandler Lawson, the Tigers soared up the rankings as they look set to make their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2014.

CBS Sports’ Gary Parrish shared the updated odds as posted by BetOnline.ag. Below are the top 20 teams in order, with their 2022 NCAA tournament odds from April in parenthesis.

Half-court heaves

Connecticut 40-1 (from 33-1)

Houston 40-1 (from 22-1)

Michigan State 40-1 (from 22-1)

North Carolina 33-1 (from 25-1)

Arkansas 33-1 (from 20-1)

Florida State 33-1 (from 15-1)

Ohio State 25-1 (from 14-1)

Baylor 25-1 (from 12-1)

No schools fell quite as far with oddsmakers as these schools did. While multiple factors contributed to each team’s odds changes, the rise of Memphis pushed these squads out. The more crowded the Final Four became, the less likely that these schools would be playing for it all.

Houston and Michigan State fell the furthest, nearly doubling their odds of a championship. Baylor, Ohio State and Florida State remain in the conversation, but each has fallen far enough to no longer be considered a favorite.

Outside shots

Alabama 20-1 (from 16-1)

Illinois 18-1 (from 22-1)

Kansas 18-1 (from 18-1)

Duke 18-1 (from 16-1)

Villanova 18-1 (from 14-1)

Purdue 16-1 (from 16-1)

Texas 14-1 (from 40-1)

Kentucky 14-1 (from 18-1)

UCLA 14-1 (from 12-1)

While not at the top of the list, these schools each have a case for why they could win it all. The largest mover here was Texas, jumping from 40-1 odds up to 14-1, tied for fourth best in the nation. A major factor in their increased odds has been success through the NCAA transfer portal since April.

With smaller increases, Kentucky and Illinois join them as the only schools to improve their odds after the rise of Memphis. Kansas and Purdue remained unchanged.

Easy buckets

Memphis 9-1 (from 50-1)

Michigan 9-1 (from 14-1)

Gonzaga 7-1 (from 9-1)

Memphis rocketed up the odds lists with their acquisition of Emoni Bates. From longshot odds to nearly tournament favorites, Memphis enters the season with great expectations.

Michigan’s odds slightly improved as well from April, and Gonzaga remained the odds-on favorite while improving their own odds. These three are the teams to beat according to betting lines.
