Gilbert (Ariz.) Highland four-star offensive tackle Caleb Lomu recently told On3 Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons that he is close to making a decision.

According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, Utah is the heavy favorite to land his commitment.

The Utes have opened up a big lead over other contenders including ArizonaMichigan and USC. RPM gives Utah a 73.8% chance of securing Lomu. The Wildcats are second at 12.0%.

RPM was released to the public in December. The On3 engineering group teamed up with Spiny.ai to create the industry’s first algorithm and machine learning-based product to predict where athletes will attend college.

It factors in machine learning, social sentiment, visits and historical trends. However, expert predictions are still a big piece of the RPM equation.

The On3 Consensus — a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies — has Lomu as the No. 209 recruit in the 2023 class.

He is ranked much higher by On3, which has him as the No. 94 overall recruit and No. 9 offensive tackle in the 2023 On300 ranking.

He currently has an On3 NIL Valuation of $9.2k. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.

Caleb Lomu Scouting Summary

Quick offensive lineman with room for growth who looks to be one of the more agile prospects at the position in the 2023 cycle. Measured over 6-foot-5 and around 265 pounds with wing-span around 6-foot-9. A flexible athlete and outstanding mover. Excels as a second level blocker, using his high-end foot quickness to navigate in space. Shows a strong punch with pop in his hands. Turned in a fantastic showing at Under Armour’s Los Angeles camp prior to his senior season. Flashed a smooth pass set and showed the ability to anchor against much heavier defensive linemen. Turned in one of the best shuttle times of any offensive lineman nationally (4.5 second range). Could end up at offensive tackle or sliding inside at the next level. Length is adequate but not elite for the position. Will need to continue adding mass once in a strength and conditioning program, but already shows signs of good functional strength.
