UTSA head coach Jeff Traylor put out a notice to Texas Longhorns fans and Baylor Bears fans on Monday: Rep the Roadrunners in San Antonio – or nothing at all. After tying the Bears for the best record in Texas in 2022 at 12-2, Traylor is calling out fans of other large Texas schools to keep their gear out of San Antonio.

“I’m gonna sound like a jerk here,” Traylor said, via Dave Wilson. “But if you like the Horns, wear ’em in Austin. If you like the Bears, wear it in Waco. When you’re in our city, rep the Roadrunners or leave.”

The former Arkansas associate head coach took over the UTSA two seasons ago and has since turned the program into a Conference USA jewel and a Power Five-upsetting squad. Last season, the Roadrunners started the year with a 37-30 win over Illinois on the road. They didn’t lose a game until late November, then shook it off to win the C-USA championship game versus Western Kentucky.

Jeff Traylor, a former long-time high school football coach at Gilmer, is constantly repping his Roadrunners. While talking to the media, he called his trademark UTSA cap and sport coat his “San Antonio tuxedo.”

After taking the UTSA football team from 7-5 in 2020 to 12-2 in 2021, the university offered him an extension through the 2031 season. He signed the deal for $28 million.

Since leaving the high school coaching ranks, Traylor has coached at Texas, SMU and Arkansas. After the season UTSA put together in 2021, Traylor was a candidate to take the Texas Tech job, which ended up going to fellow former Texas high school coach, Baylor assistant Joey McGuire.

UTSA takes on Texas in Austin on Sept. 17 in Week 3 after games versus Houston and Army.
