Saturday’s game between the Virginia Cavaliers and Virginia Tech Hokies has been canceled, according to the Atlantic Coast Conference. Per the release, the decision was made between the three parties, as UVA continues to go through the devastating tragedy that took place on campus a week ago.

“The Virginia at Virginia Tech football game scheduled for Saturday, November 26, has been cancelled,” the ACC said via a statement. The decision was made following communication between the Atlantic Coast Conference, Virginia, and Virginia Tech athletic department administration.

“The ACC and Virginia Tech continue to support UVA following the devastating tragedy, which resulted in the deaths of three members of the Cavalier football team – Devin Chandler, Lavel Davis Jr., and D’Sean Perry, and injuries to students Mike Hollins (also a Virginia football student-athlete) and Marlee Morgan.”

Virginia saw their previous game against Coastal Carolina get canceled as well. However, that was a non-conference showdown with no ACC implications on the line. With neither the Cavaliers nor Hokies in contention to make the conference championship game, getting the game played was not required.

Saturday will break a streak of over 50 years of the two programs facing off against one another on the football field. The series has been consecutive since 1970 and even took place during the 2020 COVID season. With the winner taking the Commonwealth Cup home, Virginia Tech will hold onto the trophy for another year.

Kyrie Irving makes donation to support family of Devin Chandler

Brooklyn Nets point guard Kyrie Irving became the top donor for a GoFundMe supporting the family of Virginia shooting victim Devin Chandler after putting in $50,000 on Friday. The GoFundMe account stopped taking new donations on Monday after reaching its goal of $200,000, a quarter of which was donated by the former first-round pick out of Duke.

The memorial service honoring the three fallen Cavaliers players was on Saturday. It was the day the Cavs would have played Coastal Carolina. However, Virginia canceled the game after the shooting that killed three players, Chandler, D’Sean Perry, and Lavel Davis, and injured two others.

It’s unclear why Irving chose to donate to the fund to support Chandler’s family specifically but the NBA star appeared to be feeling especially charitable this weekend. He also donated $60,000 to the family of Shanquella Robinson. Robinson, a 25-year-old native of Charlotte, North Carolina, died on a vacation to Cabo, Mexico last month. The circumstances of her death are under investigation by the FBI, the Charlotte office confirmed to CNN on Friday.
