Five-star offensive tackle Kelvin Banks of Humble (Texas) Summer Creek has had plenty of impressive blocks during his high school career. But a devastating block Saturday in a Class 6A Division I regional semifinal has gone viral.

After a 62-41 victory over Cinco Ranch Saturday afternoon, Kelvin Banks shared a video of him pulling from left tackle and decleating a linebacker. It’s one of the most punishing blocks you’ll ever see.

The video of the Oregon commitment’s block has been liked nearly 1,000 times since it was posted late Saturday evening.

With the win, Summer Creek advances to the quarterfinals for the first time in program history. The victory sets up a quarterfinal matchup against Katy at 1 p.m. Saturday at Rice Stadium.

According to the Houston Chronicle, not much was expected of Summer Creek this season. But the Bulldogs (10-3) are this year’s Cinderella team in the Greater Houston area.

“The first thing you have to do is eliminate mental mistakes, with a team like Katy you can’t do that,” Summer Creek coach Kenny Harrison told the Chronicle. “We have to emphasize and take care of the small things and execute. If we do those things, I like our chances.”

Other teams still pursuing Kelvin Banks

Kelvin Banks made national headlines when spurned local schools Texas and Texas A&M to commit to Mario Cristobal and the Oregon Ducks on July 4.

Texas, which needs franchise offensive linemen like Banks, has yet to relent in its pursuit of the Houston area star. Neither has Texas A&M.

Intel indicates there are some family dynamics that might keep Kelvin Banks close to home. And that’s why he’s listed by On3 with a flip forecast of 40%. On3’s Gerry Hamilton actually thinks the chances of him flipping are even higher than 40%.

“He remains a possibility to flip to either Texas or Texas A&M after visiting both the last two weekends,” Hamilton wrote last week. “The Longhorns provide the ability to come and compete for a starting spot from day one. That is the staff’s calling card. Texas A&M has the ability to sell similar, with a program way ahead of the Longhorns on the field.”
