In coverage of his former Alabama teammate DeVonta Smith, Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs picked off former Alabama teammate Jalen Hurts and returned it for a touchdown to extend Dallas’ lead over Philadelphia 27-7.

As the Eagles rookie Smith fell down on an out route, Trevon Diggs jumped in front of the pass thrown by Hurts and raced nearly 55 yards down the sideline untouched for a Dallas Cowboys touchdown.

The pick-six was Diggs’ third interception of the season. Diggs is tied for the NFL lead in interceptions and is the only player in the league with an interception in every game this season.

Diggs has now recorded six interceptions in 15 NFL games played. The Alabama product has emerged as the top cornerback for the Cowboys in just his second year in the league.

Trevon Diggs has earned the trust of his defensive coordinator and head coach for his performance through the first two weeks of the season.

“He’s had two tremendous matchups two weeks in a row and he’s answered the bell,” McCarthy said. “The only negative in his game has been the combative penalties and if you don’t have combative penalties as a football team maybe we’re not playing hard enough. Other than that I think he’s played at a very high level.”

After holding Tampa Bay star wide receiver Mike Evans to one reception for five yards in the season opener, Trevon Diggs limited Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen to just four receptions the following week.

“Cowboys DC Dan Quinn said CB Trevon Diggs ‘certainly is ready for that challenge’ to shadow a team’s top WR,’” Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News said. “Believes Diggs has responded when done it so far this season. ‘You feel his intent. You feel his length and strength at the line of scrimmage’ and ball skills.’”
