The College GameDay crew is at UCLA ahead of Saturday’s matchup between the Bruins and Oregon. GameDay analyst Lee Corso has a special connection to UCLA, and he was sporting a Bruins colored tie on set. Ahead of GameDay kicking off on Saturday morning, Corso recalled his special connection to UCLA football.

“52 years ago I interviewed for a job here (at UCLA) for Tommy Prothro,” Corso said. “Defensive coach. I didn’t get the job. But he was so impressed he called the University of Louisville for me and told them, ‘Hey look at this guy.’ I got the University of Louisville head football job because of Tommy Prothro, UCLA.”

Corso was named Louisville’s head coach in 1969. He brought Louisville to its second ever bowl game in 1970 and was later hired by Indiana in 1972. Corso coached for ten seasons at Indiana, coaching to a 41-68-2 record. He then became the head coach at Northern Illinois and went 4-6-1 record in his lone season there.

Corso then became a coach for the USFL’s Orlando Renegades, but the league suspended operations ahead of his second season. ESPN then hired Corso to be an analyst on College GameDay, where he has been ever since.

UCLA-Oregon could be an intriguing matchup

Corso followed his story of his connection to UCLA with a quick piece of advice for everyone. Now 86 years old, Corso gave his simple trick and message on life.

“Appreciate what you got and not what you should have,” Corso said.

The GameDay crew is in Los Angeles and could have an exciting matchup to watch when No. 10 Oregon takes on UCLA. Oregon is ranked in the top ten, but UCLA is actually a one point home favorite for the contest. The Ducks are coming off of a close 24-17 victory over Cal last week. UCLA also won 24-17 last week, defeating Washington.

Kickoff for Oregon at UCLA is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday afternoon.
