Last year, Jameson Williams was the third wide receiver option at Ohio State behind Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson. After becoming a national name at Alabama this year, he saw some familiar faces at Saturday’s SEC Championship.

Olave and tight end Gee Scott Jr. made the trip to Atlanta to cheer on Williams as he and Alabama dominated Georgia 41-24 on Saturday. It was a cool moment, especially considering Williams 184 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Crimson Tide to another league title.

After the game, Williams went on Instagram and posted a celebratory video with his former teammates to his story.

In fact, Williams caught as many touchdowns against Georgia as he had all year in 2020. As a Buckeye, Williams had nine receptions for 154 yards and two touchdowns as Ohio State fell to Alabama 52-24 in the national championship.

Williams’ numbers were so low because Olave and Wilson had huge years. Olave led Ohio State with 729 yards and seven touchdowns, while Wilson had 723 yards and six touchdowns with Justin Fields under center.

The transfer worked out for Williams, though. He became Bryce Young’s primary target, hauling in 68 receptions for 1,445 yards — nearly double what Wilson and Olave had combined last year — and 15 touchdowns.

Alabama became the No. 1 team in the country with the win and is gearing up to take on No. 4 Cincinnati in the Cotton Bowl on New Year’s Eve. The winner moves on to the national championship.

Jameson Williams explains proposal touchdown celebration

Alabama Crimson Tide receiver Jameson Williams has crossed the goal line 15 times this season and on Saturday night, the senior decided to make things official with the end zone goalpost.

Following a 55-yard touchdown reception that put the Tide up 31-17 in the third quarter, Williams staged a proposal to the goalpost. The wideout got down on one knee and presented the goalpost with his touchdown ball. Supposedly, the goalpost said yes.

After the victory, Williams explained the celebration.

“Actually I did, I did [propose],” Williams said. “Oh yeah, [the goal post said yes] that’s why I gave it the hug at the end.”

The former Ohio State Buckeye finished the SEC title game with seven catches for 184 yards and two touchdowns. Williams has now posted four games with 150-plus receiving yards, all since the start of November. He’s second in the country in receiving touchdowns this season.
