With Russell Wilson out for an extended period due to injury, Seattle’s offense is largely reliant on the playmaking ability of wide receivers DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett. Early in the Seahawks’ Monday Night Football matchup with the New Orleans Saints, Metcalf took matters into his own hands

After out-muscling the defensive back to come up with the catch, DK Metcalf stiff armed the safety and had nothing but green ahead, showing off his 4.33 speed as he raced 84 yards to the end zone to put Seattle ahead 7-0.

The 84-yard touchdown catch is Metcalf’s longest catch of his career, and certainly the longest touchdown catch of his career. On the season, the Ole Miss product now has 525 receiving yards and six touchdowns on 32 receptions.

The 2-4 Seahawks have had a rough start to their season between two heartbreaking overtime losses and the loss of their star quarterback to injury. Despite the rough start, DK Metcalf has emerged as a bright spot, and a building block for the Seattle’s future.

DK Metcalf trades jabs on Twitter with Shannon Sharpe

After Seattle’s loss to Pittsburgh on Sunday Night Football, DK Metcalf responded on Twitter to an NFL Hall of Famer’s comments made about his late fumble against the Steelers. Shannon Sharpe criticized Metcalf for trying to play “hero football” with time running out in the game, and Metcalf responded by calling Sharpe “washed up.”

Near the end of regulation in the Seattle Seahawks game against the Steelers, DK Metcalf caught a pass on the sideline that gave him plenty of opportunity to step out of bounds and stop the clock. Instead, Metcalf attempted to shake the defense in front of him and fumbled the football. Luckily, the ball was recovered by the Seahawks and they were still able to stop the clock.

After the play, NFL Hall of Fame tight end Shannon Sharpe criticized his decision on Twitter.

“What was D.K. thinking? Why try to play hero [football] in that situation?”

Metcalf responded Monday morning by telling Sharpe to quit questioning him, needling Sharpe in the process.

“Nothing to question. That was [a] ‘DUMB ASS’ play and your pride won’t let you admit it,” Sharpe responded back. “’You’ can’t question anything I’ve done. Pray your resume will be as complete as mine, PRAY. Enjoy the rest of your day.”

This prompted Metcalf to respond by calling Sharpe a “washed up wanna be” and drawing attention to the verbal jabs around social media.

After fans were quick to point out Sharpe’s resume and shortly after his response was posted, DK Metcalf seemed to cool down the tension by admitting Sharpe’s resume was something he hoped to match one day.
