With the majority of the 2022 class either signed or committed, let’s take a look at which schools walked away with five-star recruits.

According to the On3 Consensus, there are a total of 20 five-star recruits. The SEC landed over a third of the five-star talent pool, leading all conferences with a total of seven commitments. The Big 12 finished second with five, while the PAC-12 and ACC each landed three five-star recruits.

Duke leads the way with three 5-stars

Coach-in-waiting Jon Scheyer hit the ground running on the recruiting trail and walked away with the No. 1 ranked recruiting class, before even officially taking the reigns as head coach.

The Blue Devils are bringing in a six-man class, three of which are five stars. Kyle Filipowski leads the charge as On3’s newly-crowned No. 1 overall prospect. Next up at No. 2 overall is Dereck Lively II, followed up by Dariq Whitehead at No. 3. Yes, the top-3 prospects in the class are headed to Durham.

Also headed to Durham is Mark Mitchell (No. 22), four-star sharpshooter Jaden Schutt (No. 51), and three-star seven-footer Christian Reeves (No. 231), who plans to redshirt.

Kentucky, Kansas, UCLA, Arkansas, Texas, LSU each with a pair of 5-stars

Kentucky Wildcats

John Calipari and the Wildcats are accustomed to seeing five-star talent pile into Lexington each and every year. This year is no different as the Wildcats are bringing in two 5-stars: Cason Wallace (No. 5) and Chris Livingston (No. 10). Also headed to UK is four-star combo guard Skyy Clark (No. 32).

Remember, Shaedon Sharpe, formerly the No. 1 prospect in the class, was originally a part of this class but enrolled early.

Kansas Jayhawks

The Jayhawks have struggled a bit on the recruiting trail the last few years, missing out on some key targets, however, this year is different. Kansas is bringing in the No. 3 ranked recruiting class nationally, their best since the 2018 class which featured Ochai Agbaji, David McCormack, Quentin Grimes, and Devon Dotson. You could make the argument this 2022 class might be even better. Bill Self is bringing in a five-star duo; Gradey Dick (No. 15) and MJ Rice (No. 18), to go along with four-star big men Ernest Udeh Jr. (No. 26), and Zuby Ejiofor (No. 45).

UCLA Bruins

Mick Cronin is bringing the Bruins a strong, three-man class highlighted by five-star combo guard Amari Bailey (No. 6) and five-star big man Adem Bona (No. 13). Also headed to Westwood is four-star point guard Dylan Andrews.

In late 2018, 14-year old Amari Bailey committed to UCLA. Roughly six months later, he decommitted from the program. Flash forward to February of 2021, Bailey committed to the Bruins for a second time, planning on sticking to this one. He signed with UCLA in November.

Arkansas Razorbacks

The Arkansas Razorbacks have only landed a total of four five-star recruits in the history of the program. The last time the Hogs landed a five-star was in nearly a decade ago in 2013 with Bobby Portis. This year, the Hogs are bringing in two five-stars, Nick Smith and Jordan Walsh. This is also the first time Eric Musselman has brought in a five-star since his time began in Fayetteville.

Other signees: Derrian Ford (No. 91), Joseph Pinion (No. 140), and Barry Dunning (No. 151).

Texas Longhorns

It didn’t take long for Chris Beard to bring top-ranked talent to Austin. The Longhorns have signed two five-stars in Dillon Mitchell (No. 7), and Arterio Morris (No. 20). Also headed to the Lone Star state is Rowan Brumbaugh (No. 94), a former Northwestern commit.

On3’s evaluators are extremely high on Mitchell, even ranking him No. 2 overall in the updated player rankings.

LSU Tigers

Despite the FBI investigation, Will Wade and the Tigers have yet to skip a beat on the recruiting trail. Headed to Baton Rouge are five-stars Julian Phillips (No. 16) and Yohan Traore (No. 17). Four-star Devin Ree (No. 109) rounds out the class.

*Will Wade has landed at least one five-star recruit in each class since taking over at LSU in 2017.

Oregon, Alabama, Houston, Baylor each land a single 5-star recruit

Oregon Ducks

“Quality over quantity” is a phrase that could be used to describe Oregon’s 2022 recruiting class. The Ducks only landed two prospects, however, it’s still good enough for the No. 4 overall class. Headed to Eugune is seven-foot five-star Kel’el Ware and one of the top point guards, four-star Dior Johnson.

Alabama Crimson Tide

Nate Oats has completely turned around Alabama’s program, and it started on the recruiting trail. The Tide has landed back-to-back top 10 recruiting classes. Headed to Tuscaloosa is lone five-star recruit Brandon Miller (No. 14), followed up by four-stars Jaden Bradley (No. 23), Rylan Griffen (No. 38), and Noah Clowney (No. 84).

Houston Cougars

Kelvin Sampson landed the Cougars’ highest-ranked recruit in program history, Jarace Walker (No. 9). The five-star forward chose the Cougars over the likes of Alabama, Auburn, LSU, and others. Also headed to play for Coach Sampson is Texas native and four-star wing Terrance Arceneaux (No. 46).

Baylor Bears

Headed to Waco is one of the nation’s best, five-star Keyonte George. The 6-4 shooting guard is the second-highest ranked recruit in Bears history, only behind Isaiah Austin. Also headed to Baylor is big man Joshua Ojianwuna (No. 115) and shooting guard Dillon Hunter (No. 128).
