Each year while the NFL Combine is taking place, draft prospects are only permitted to meet with representatives from an individual team for 18 minutes. As the prospects are already focused on impressing the NFL teams in attendance, the quick meetings only add to the stress they’re under.

That was certainly the case in Indianapolis for former Arkansas wide receiver Treylon Burks, who had his first meeting with the Tennessee Titans while at the combine – one that didn’t go well, according to Titans head coach Mike Vrabel and general manager Jon Robinson.

While Vrabel and Robinson shared that their initial meeting with Burks didn’t impress them, they ultimately gave the wideout a second chance and scheduled a second meeting – with this one taking place in Nashville, Tennessee. The Titans are happy they did, as they ended up selecting Burks with the No. 18 overall pick in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

As Burks met with the Tennessee media for the first time, he shared why he was excited for a second meeting with the Titans in the pre-draft process after the first one didn’t go well.

“Honestly, just being in that room – like [Jon Robinson] said, 18 minutes – getting questions here, questions there … not being ready for it, honestly. … Not being ready for it,” Burks said. “That kind of put me in the state to where I wasn’t myself.

“And then being able to come back – I honored that second chance, and I just wanted to show them like who I really am and not that person.”

Burks jumps to the NFL level after a successful career at Arkansas, which included 2,399 yards and 18 touchdowns over three seasons with the Razorbacks. The wide receiver put up 1,104 yards and 11 touchdowns last season to become a first-round talent.
