Blake Corum and J.J. McCarthy continue to use NIL to give back to the greater Ann Arbor community.

The pair of Michigan football stars recently visited C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital, gifting new Bose speakers to patients and signing autographs. The entire trip was facilitated by Valiant Management, which released a video on Monday night.

“J.J. McCarthy and Blake Corum continue to emphasize philanthropic initiatives,” Valiant founder Jared Wangler told On3 in a text. “As part of an NIL deal with Bose, they distributed speakers to patients at Mott’s Children’s Hospital.”

Corum and McCarthy have been active philanthropists since the inception of NIL, using their earnings to give back. The running back delivered 300 turkeys he purchased using earnings this past Thanksgiving.

And the quarterback has his own foundation, called J.J. For the Kids, which aims to, “make a difference in the lives of kids in my communities, in the Chicagoland area and in Ann Arbor.” All donations are directed back towards the fund.

College athletes have long been known to give back to their communities. But thanks to NIL, athletes are now able to use their publicity rights to raise funds for charities. Others like Corum can use their compensation to give back.

Both Corum and McCarthy have previously inked NIL deals with the audio equipment company. Bose has only ramped up its NIL operation in the first 20 months of NIL. Oregon quarterback Bo Nix, UConn’s Paige Bueckers, Tennessee’s Jalin Hyatt and South Carolina’s Aliyah Boston have all signed with the brand.

Valiant continues to ramp up activity at Michigan

A sports marketing firm dedicated to creating NIL opportunities for Michigan athletes, Valiant has secured countless deals for a number of Wolverine programs. Valiant and Wangler also helped launch the Champions Circle collective. Starting with a focus on football, the collective has support from prominent boosters.

REVEL Moments and Valiant partnered to create Wolverine+ back in October. The subscription-based platform gives subscribers access to exclusive content and interactive experiences with Michigan athletes. All revenue is be funneled back to the athletes. The monthly subscription fee starts at $7.

Valiant has also assisted in group licensing deals, selling T-shirts and bobbleheads through The M Den.

Blake Corum, J.J. McCarthy’s NIL Valuation

The Michigan running back chose to return for a final season after rushing for 1,463 yards and 18 touchdowns in 2022. Corum holds a $1.1 million On3 NIL Valuation, which ranks in the top 15 of college football. The valuation also sits at No. 21 in the On3 NIL 100, which is the first of its kind and defacto NIL ranking of the top 100 high school and college athletes ranked by their On3 NIL Valuation.

McCarthy also had plenty of success last year, throwing for 2,719 yards and 22 touchdowns with just five interceptions. The quarterback’s $836,000 On3 NIL Valuation is 35th in the On3 NIL 100.

The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets the standard market NIL value for high school and college athletes. A proprietary algorithm, the On3 NIL Valuation calculates an athlete’s NIL value using dynamic data points targeting three primary categories: performance, influence and exposure.

About On3 NIL Valuation, Brand Value, Roster Value

While the algorithm includes deal data, it does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals athletes have completed to date, nor does it set an athlete’s NIL valuation for their entire career.

The On3 NIL Valuation is publicly available. Performance, Influence, and Exposure ratings along with the athlete’s personal Brand Value Index and Roster Value Index are available only to the athlete in the “Athlete Verified” private dashboard on the On3 Athlete Network.
