Texas Tech quarterback Tyler Shough proposed to his girlfriend in Mexico last week, thanks in part to an NIL deal with a Lubbock-based jeweler.

Thacker Jewelry provided the ring Shough used to propose to his girlfriend, former Oregon women’s soccer player Jordan Wormdahl. The Red Raiders quarterback helped curate the ring alongside a jeweler from Thacker.

A senior who transferred from Oregon to Texas Tech, Shough was named the starter coming out of the spring in 2021 but a broken collar bone limited him to just four stars this past season. He reportedly told Wormdahl that they were going to take some photos together as part of a different NIL deal, before surprising her. Those photos ended up being engagement photos, and they were a separate deal.

Tyler Shough posted about the engagement and ring on his Instagram. In that post, he also praised Thacker Jewelry, likely as a part of the NIL deal.

“Thank you to Thacker Jewelry for creating our dream ring and making the process so easy. Best jewelers in Texas,” Shough wrote.

It is unclear if Tyler Shough received any financial compensation for the deal or if anything else is going to be expected of him. Otherwise, the deal could have been the engagement ring for a social media post about the company.

Tyler Shough’s On3 NIL Valuation

Tyler Shough has an On3 NIL Valuation of $55,000. With 28,000 followers on social media, he has an On3 Per Post Value of $369. It’s an On3 NIL Valuation that has remained fairly steady through the spring.

The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set fair market value in the NIL era. It isn’t a tracker of past deals, rather it looks at a player’s value at a given moment in time. It takes an athlete’s social media, their on-field success, and prior deals into account.

With new deals like this one, Tyler Shough could see his On3 NIL Valuation rise in the coming weeks.
