The Denver Broncos are expected to hire LSU defensive line coach Jamar Cain as a pass rush specialist, sources tell On3.

Cain informed LSU players of his impending departure on Saturday prior to the Tigers’ practice.

Before LSU, Cain worked for two years at Oklahoma, where he coached players such as Broncos 2022 second-round pick Nik Bonitto. Under Cain, Bonitto was an All-American in both 2020 and ’21.

Prior to Oklahoma, Cain was defensive line coach at Arizona State (2019) and Fresno State (2017-18) after working as an assistant at places such as North Dakota State (2014-16) and Wyoming (2013).

LSU is entering its second season with Brian Kelly as its head coach after finishing last year 10-4.

Cain’s new team, the Broncos, are entering Year 1 under new head coach Sean Payton. Payton, the former longtime head coach of the New Orleans Saints, was hired by the Broncos in February after taking the year off from coaching last season.

In 15 seasons as the head coach of the Saints, Payton posted a 152-89 record with one Super Bowl title.

Although Denver finished last season just 5-12 under the previous staff, the Broncos did have one of the top-ranked defenses in the NFL, finishing the year ranked No. 7 in the NFL in total defense.
