Ike Taylor: Ben Roethlisberger has what Aaron Rodgers covets
A lot of the NFL’s offseason revolved around Aaron Rodgers and his situation with the Green Bay Packers. Rodgers desired more control and communication with moves the Packers made. Longtime Pittsburgh Steeler Ike Taylor says that Ben Roethlisberger already has in Pittsburgh everything that Rodgers is looking for with the Packers.
Taylor: Roethlisberger has always had the control Rodgers desires
The Steelers drafted Taylor, a defensive back, in the fourth round of the 2003 NFL Draft. He spent his entire 12-year career with the Steelers. Taylor has been around Roethlisberger a lot during his career. Aaron Rodgers’ desires are something that Roethlisberger has had for a long time, Taylor says in an interview with Colin Cowherd on The Colin Cowherd Podcast.
“What Aaron Rodgers is looking for, as far as like, ‘At least can I have some say so?’ Seven (Roethlisberger) been having that,” Taylor says. “It was never an issue. Seven is a little different, seven ain’t got to worry about what Aaron Rodgers is going through right now when you want to talk about personnel and front office in the management. If seven likes you, you’re there.”
Roethlisberger was 11th overall by Pittsburgh in the 2004 NFL Draft. He has thrown for 60,348 yards and 396 touchdowns in his career. The Steelers won Super Bowls in 2005 and 2008 with Roethlisberger.
Rodgers’ situation has consumed much of the offseason
It has been reported in previous weeks that Rodgers is unhappy with Green Bay. The two sides were recently able to come to an agreement to get Rodgers in the building for the 2021 season. Jay Glazer of Fox Sports spoke on Thursday about the latest on the situation in Green Bay.

“As for the Packers, they have about six months to repair that relationship with Rodgers,” Glazer said. “If at the end of the year Aaron Rodgers decides he wants out, they have to trade Aaron Rodgers. They’ve agreed to it already.”
If the Packers indeed have already agreed to trade Rodgers after the season if that is what he wants, they will need to work hard at repairing the fractured relationship with their star quarterback. Rodgers was asked about his relationship with Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst at training camp.
“I think it’s a work in progress,” Rodgers says, per Around The NFL writer Nick Shook. “I think relationships aren’t formed in the matter of a couple days. There’s time where the respect grows and the communication follows. I think the greatest relationships that you have with your friends and loved ones involve conversations and flow. You can not talk to a close friend for a few months and pick up right where you left off.”
