Amon-Ra St. Brown injury update: Report reveals latest intel on Lions WR
Amon-Ra St. Brown exited with an injury in the first quarter of the divisional loss for Detroit on Thanksgiving yesterday against Green Bay. Now, a day later, more is known on his status, and it looks to be positive news for the Lions.
Per Tom Pelissero at the NFL Network, St. Brown suffered a low ankle sprain against the Packers. That’s optimistic considering all things, especially with the team only having one game to play over the next fifteen days.
“Lions WR Amon-Ra St. Brown is believed to have suffered a low ankle sprain, sources say, and while he continues to be evaluated, it’s good news so far on his chances for returning sooner than later,” posted Pelissero on Friday morning.
St. Brown exited early, after his leg was rolled up on by two of his own offensive linemen while they all were blocking, in what eventually ended as a 31-24 loss for Detroit yesterday to Green Bay. He walked off on his own, but did not return to the game on Thursday afternoon. That led to no receiving stats for him on the day with just one target at him before he was sidelined.

For the fifth consecutive season, with it earning him nods in the Pro Bowl for the past three years and honors for the past two as First Team All-Pro, St. Brown is the leading pass-catcher for the Detroit Lions. He is doing so this year by a wide margin with 75 receptions on 108 targets for 884 yards, averaging 73.7 receiving yards per game and 11.8 per catch, and nine touchdowns. Jameson Williams (38 catches for 706 yards, six touchdowns) and Sam Laporta (40 catches for 489 yards, three touchdowns) are next closest to him, but with Laporta also sidelined right now, for likely the duration of this season, with a back injury that has him on IR.
But, as for St. Brown, Detroit may have also lucked out timing-wise with his injury, with it also not testing as too serious to begin with. That’s as the Lions will have a week off before again playing next week against the Dallas Cowboys on ‘Thursday Night Football’, and will have ten days off after that before they play again against the Los Angeles Rams on the road on December 14th. That should provide plenty of rest, if he is at risk of missing any games at all, for Brown.
With five games left in the season, and in the middle of a playoff race in the NFC, Detroit couldn’t afford to have another target missing from its offense. Brown, though, may avoid that, at least based on this morning’s reporting of his results and what the next two weeks look like for the Lions.
