Report: Russell Westbrook, D'Angelo Russell headline NBA blockbuster three-team deal

The Los Angeles Lakers are finalizing a blockbuster three-team deal that will net them Minnesota’s D’Angelo Russell, Malik Beasley and Jarred Vanderbilt.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Timberwolves will pick up Mike Conley and draft picks, while Russell Westbrook and a “lightly protected” 2027 Lakers first-round pick will be headed to the Jazz.

Additional parts of the deal include Juan Toscano-Anderson and Damian Jones heading to Utah and Nickeil Alexander-Walker to the Timberwolves.

Minnesota also picks up the lesser of the Washington-Memphis second round pick in 2024, as well as 2025 and 2026 second-round picks via Utah.

Blockbuster three-team deal lands Lakers D’Angelo Russell

The blockbuster three-team deal will put 2019 NBA All-Star D’Angelo Russell in Los Angeles, where he’ll help power the backcourt.

Russell is averaging 17.9 points per game, while also contributing 6.2 assists and 3.1 rebounds per game.

Almost 27 years old, Russell will bring some more youth to the Los Angeles roster.

Westbrook, who is headed out of Los Angeles, averaged 15.9 points per game while also kicking in 7.5 assists and 6.2 rebounds per game. But it’s also possible Westbrook could secure a buyout from the Jazz after the three-team deal is complete.

Chris Haynes, a senior NBA insider for TNT, reports that if Westbrook does agree to a buyout with the Jazz, the Los Angeles Clippers would have interest in signing him.

Westbrook, a former UCLA star, is now playing in his 15th season in the NBA.

Conley, who is headed from Utah to Minnesota, is averaging 10.7 points, 7.7 assists and 2.5 rebounds per game.

While at Ohio State as a college star, Conley made it all the way to the 2007 NCAA title game. Ohio State fell to Florida, finishing as the NCAA runners-up.

Conley is now in his 16th season in the NBA.
