Houston Texans quarterback CJ Stroud will miss his second consecutive game this Sunday against the Tennessee Titans, ESPN‘s Adam Schefter reported Thursday afternoon. Backup quarterback Davis Mills will make his second consecutive start for Houston.

Stroud exited Houston’s game against the Denver Broncos on Nov. 2 in the second quarter after suffering a big hit by Denver CB Kris Abrams-Draine. He did not return to the game and will now miss his second consecutive game as he deals with a nasty concussion.

In eight games this season, Stroud boasts 1,702 passing yards, 11 touchdowns and five interceptions. The Texans are 3-5 in games he’s started this year.

In his first start of the season last week against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Mills led a fourth quarter comeback, trailing 29-10. The Stanford alum passed for 292 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception, and scored the game-winning 14-yard rushing touchdown with 31 seconds remaining in regulation.

“Anytime you start off a little slow, the mentality of our team is to attack every play with aggression and going out there to try and execute every play at a high-level,” Mills said postgame. “We were able to do that. Coaches stayed aggressive.

“I have always had the ability to stay confident, regardless of what happened the play before. It’s kind of like the old basketball mentality. Shooters shoot. If you stop, you’re not gonna see shots go in. I think today was just a great team win.”

With eight games remaining in the regular season, the Texans currently sit at 4-5. This is good for third in the AFC South, behind the 8-2 Indianapolis Colts and the 5-4 Jacksonville Jaguars. They are currently the second team out of the AFC Playoffs, behind the 5-4 Kansas City Chiefs. Per NFL.com, they have a 28% chance to make the postseason.

With the playoffs still more than in play, Houston will ride Mills for another start. Over his five-year NFL career, Mills boasts 6,619 passing yards, 37 touchdowns, and 26 interceptions. The organization is 6-19-1 in games he’s started, but is 1-0 this year.
