Recent comments made by NFL Pro Bowler Davante Adams in an interview with The Ringer led many to believe he wasn’t too pleased with the Las Vegas Raiders’ leadership. But the Pro Bowl wide receiver says that’s not true, and he’s clarifying his comments.

Adams opened up about some of the changes made within the organization. Most notably, he talked about Derek Carr‘s departure and the Raiders signing Jimmy Garoppolo to be the next leader of the offense.

“[The front office] think this is the best bet for us right now to put us in a position to be urgent,” Adams said. “We don’t see eye-to-eye on what we think is best for us right now.

“I’m going to have to buy into this and try to be as optimistic as possible.”

Many thought that was a slight at the Raiders and Garoppolo. But the receiver says it was “never my intention to bring any kind of negative attention.”

“You can grab something and run with it if you want to get clicks,” Adams said, per Pro Football Talk. “That’s what people often do with me if I misspeak or speak up. At the end of the day, I’m a Raider and I’m excited to be here. I love my head coach and I love the General Manager here. Everybody from the top to the bottom.”

Although Adams said his comments were “never a slight” at his new quarterback, he did make some interesting remarks about Garoppolo. He believes success within the offense depends on style of play.

“It all depends on the style of ball that we play,” Adams said. “If we play a certain brand of ball, I can get [Garoppolo] to conform to whatever. But if we use him a certain type of way, then it’s going to make it tough for us to maximize who we should be this year.”

During the offseason, Las Vegas inked Garoppolo to a three-year, $67.5 million deal to replace Carr. Based on his success with the San Francisco 49ers, it seems like a solid fit. Especially with a receiver like Adams as a weapon.

Over the course of his 10-year career, Adams has totaled 769 receptions for 9,637 yards and 87 touchdowns. He produced the second-best year of his career statistically with the Raiders in 2022, accounting for 100 catches for 1,516 yards and 14 touchdowns.
