With the entire Georgia community grieving the loss of offensive lineman Devin Willock, former Bulldogs punter Jake Camarda offered a touching tribute to his life Monday night. Carmada, who now plays in the NFL for the Buccaneers, was seen wearing a towel in Monday night’s Wild Card playoff game against the Cowboys that read, “77 RIP Dev and Chan.”

Willock, along with UGA recruiter staffer Chandler LeCroy, died early Sunday morning in a car crash following the parade celebration of the football team’s second straight national title. A New Jersey native, Willock had just wrapped up his third season at Georgia, where he appeared in all 15 games and started two of them.

As the Georgia community tries to cope with this loss, it’s nice to see former and current players alike find ways to celebrate the lives of both Willock and LeCroy in the face of tragedy.

Jake Camarda played for Georgia from 2018-21, where he was a teammate of Devin Willock for two seasons. The pair won a national championship together in Camarda’s final season.

Following his career with the Bulldogs, Camarda was a fourth-round selection in the 2022 NFL Draft. He has averaged 48.8 yards per punt this season, landing 22 punts inside the 20-yard line.

More on the passing of Devin Willock, Chandler LeCroy

The car crash occurred 12 hours after Georgia celebrated its second straight national championship with a victory parade and event at Sanford Stadium.

LeCroy was the driver of the vehicle, a 2021 Ford Expedition, which was traveling southbound on Barrett Shoals Road before leaving the road and striking two power poles along with several trees. Police responded at 2:45 a.m. Willock died at the scene, while LeCroy was taken to a local hospital before passing away.

Offensive tackle Warren McClendon and recruiting staffer Tory Bowles were also passengers in the vehicle. They were both taken to the hospital after suffering injuries and, thankfully, are said to be in stable condition. McClendon’s injuries are reportedly minor, whereas Bowles’ are more serious.

Willock, a New Jersey native, had just wrapped up his third season at Georgia, where he appeared in all 15 games and started two of them. LeCroy was a UGA graduate with a masters in sports management and policy.
