Garrett Nussmeier injury update: Former LSU QB reveals status at Senior Bowl, ahead of NFL Draft
Former LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier is still being impacted by an undisclosed injury, he told reporters at the annual Senior Bowl on Tuesday. Nussmeier missed the last four games of the season for the Tigers.
Details about his injury have remained scant over the last several months. Rumors of an injury first popped up this summer, and they seemed to be validated early in the season when Nussmeier couldn’t quite get his normal velocity on throws.
Still, LSU mostly dodged questions about it. And Garrett Nussmeier did the same Tuesday at the Senior Bowl, telling reporters he’s still not 100% healthy.
“I’m not gonna get into details about that,” Nussmeier said, per Arye Pulli of Behind the Blitz. “I’m not sure what they want me to share.”
As it stands, Garrett Nussmeier was able to play in nine games as a senior in 2025. He went 194-of-288 passing (67.4%) for 1,927 yards, with 12 touchdowns and five interceptions. He also rushed for a score.
That came one year after a breakout 2024 campaign that put Nussmeier firmly on the NFL Draft radar. He threw for 4,052 yards and 29 touchdowns, against 12 interceptions.
But a nagging injury that was reportedly somewhere in the torso or abdominal area greatly impacted his play this fall. And given the lack of specifics available publicly, NFL teams are likely to have plenty of questions.

Garrett Nussmeier spoke to his injury midway through the season, when he appeared to be getting a little better. He would eventually shut things down a few weeks later, possibly after tweaking whatever the injury was.
“At the end of the day, football is a game where you’re never really fully healthy,” Garrett Nussmeier said in October. “So, it’s not necessarily about that for me. It’s just trying to get the pieces going, trying to get us on the right track on offense. So, definitely there’s a little bit of a confidence booster there when I’m starting to feel better. I’d be lying if I said differently. But, still just focused on the offense.”
After the team’s bye week, Garrett Nussmeier had an improved performance against South Carolina. That’s when arguably the most details about the injury emerged, courtesy of then-coach Brian Kelly.
“On Thursday, I mentioned to you that we have the ball that has the GPS in it,” Kelly said in mid-September. “And his numbers were up from any other time during the week. His ab injury is on the right side of it where he feels good, and he didn’t feel any pain on Sunday coming in. So, that’s a really, really good sign for us moving forward.”
