Two weeks of college football have now passed, and some players are beginning to emerge as early Heisman Trophy candidates. It’s still far too soon to decisively say who has a shot to be a finalist, but FanDuel has odds based on what’s taken place thus far.

Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers made a big jump this week after leading his team to a Week 2 win against defending national champion Michigan on Saturday. He now leads the list with odds of +500.

Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel was No. 1 in last week’s odds, but fell all the way down to the sixth spot this week. The Ducks barely escaped Boise State this past week, but it still goes to show how much the odds can change this early in the season.

There’s a long way to go between now and December, and we’re sure to see players come and go in the Heisman Trophy race in that time. But for now, these are the ones with the best odds to end up a winner, according to FanDuel.

+500 — QB Quinn Ewers, Texas

Ewers has thrown for 506 yards and six touchdowns to one interception through his first two games with a 69.8% completion rate. On Saturday, he led tossed three scores as the Longhorns rolled to a dominant 34-12 victory on the road against the Wolverines.

The victory has many excited for the ceiling of both Ewers and Texas this season after it made the College Football Playoff last year. They’ll face some more tough tests once SEC play gets going, however, and how the quarterback performs in those games will determine his Heisman odds late in the year.

+750 — QB Cam Ward, Miami

Ward saw a slight bump in his Heisman Trophy odds from last week after throwing for 304 yards and scoring four total touchdowns in a 56-9 rout of Florida A&M on Saturday. He has the second-best QBR in the country (94.9) according to ESPN through two games.

The Washington State transfer has been even better than advertised and has a chance to take the Hurricanes to the ACC title game for the first time since 2017. They face the 53rd toughest remaining schedule according to ESPN, with Louisville being their only opponent that is currently ranked.

+850 — QB Carson Beck, Georgia

After leading Georgia to a 34-3 victory against a tough Clemson defense in Week 1, Beck turned around to carve up Tennessee Tech in Week 2. He threw for 242 yards and five touchdowns in the 48-3 win despite playing only the first half and first four minutes of the third quarter.

Beck has still yet to throw for an interception in two games while tossing seven touchdowns and 520 yards. He should have the Bulldogs as the favorites to win the SEC Championship and if that’s the case, one would think his Heisman chances are good as well.

+950 — QB Jaxson Dart, Ole Miss

Petre Thomas-Imagn Images

Dart threw for 418 yards and five touchdowns in a Week 1 blowout of Furman, putting his Heisman Trophy odds at No. 2 behind Gabriel. However, he dropped to No. 4 this week after taking a backseat to the running game in a 52-3 win against Middle Tennessee on Saturday.

Dart finished that game an extremely efficient 25-of-27 (92.6%) passing for 377 yards, but scored only one touchdown as running back Henry Parrish Jr. scored four. It was still a great day for Dart, who scored a touchdown on the ground as well, and he can climb back up the list with a big game against Wake Forest this week.

+1000 — QB Jalen Milroe, Alabama

William McLelland-Imagn Images

Milroe is a threat both on the ground and through the air, having combined for nine total touchdowns through the first two games. It took him and the offense a bit to get going Saturday against USF, but he eventually finished 16-of-26 passing for 194 yards and four total scores in a 42-16 win.

We’ve seen dual-threat quarterbacks have success in winning the Heisman in recent years, including Jayden Daniels last year. If he can continue to put up numbers like this, he’ll have as good a chance as anyone.

+1200 — QB Dillon Gabriel, Oregon

Troy Wayrynen-Imagn Images

It hasn’t been the best start for Gabriel across his first two appearances with the Ducks. He’s put up solid but not eye-popping numbers with 623 yards and four touchdowns as Oregon struggled to put away Idaho and Boise State.

One would think that, given the numbers he put up at his previous stops, that Gabriel can eventually figure things out. His offensive line hasn’t exactly done the best job with seven sacks allowed, so Oregon will hope that changes as it gets ready face rival Oregon State in the Civil War on Saturday.

+1200 — QB Nico Iamaleava, Tennessee

Saul Young/News Sentinel / USA TODAY NETWORK

The No. 1 recruit from the 2023 class according to On3’s rankings, Iamaleava is certainly living up to the hype early on. The redshirt freshman threw for a school-record 314 yards in the first half in Week 1, then Tennessee to a 51-10 rout on No. 24 NC State this past week.

He threw for 211 yards and two touchdowns against the Wolfpack, but did have two interceptions as well. He also rushed for 65 yards and a touchdown. Only two redshirt freshman have ever won the Heisman Trophy, so it would be surprising if Iamaleava could become the third, but he’ll have another year after this one if he doesn’t.

+1800 — QB Miller Moss, USC

Kirby Lee-Imagn Images

Lincoln Riley has already coached three Heisman Trophy winners, and Moss is surprisingly making a case for himself early this season. The replacement for the 2022 winner and No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams, Moss has thrown for 607 yards and two touchdowns.

He led the Trojans on a game-winning drive in the opening week against LSU as they scored the go-ahead touchdown with eight seconds remaining. There’s still a lot of football left to be played, but Moss is outperforming expectations for himself so far.

+2000 — QB Will Howard, Ohio State

Adam Cairns/Columbus Dispatch / USA TODAY NETWORK

A transfer from Kansas State, Howard has led the Buckeyes offense to put up 50-plus points against a pair of lackluster opponents in the first two weeks. That included tossing for 228 yards and three scores in his Ohio State debut against Akron.

The blowout nature of the games has meant that we haven’t got to even see a full game from Howard to this point. That could again be the case with the Buckeyes set to face Marshall this Saturday.

+2800 — RB Ashton Jeanty, Boise State

Troy Wayrynen-Imagn Images

Jeanty comes in at 10th overall in odds to win the Heisman Trophy, but has the best chance of any non-quarterback. The Broncos star opened the season by setting a single-game school record with 267 yards rushing and six touchdowns.

He didn’t slow down in Week 2 as Boise State gave Oregon a run for its money in a 37-34 loss. He finished just eight yards shy of the 200-mark again to record 192 yards and three touchdowns. Jeanty isn’t likely to see many defenses capable of containing him in the Mountain West, giving him the opportunity to put up some big-time numbers to boost his Heisman campaign.

Heisman Trophy Betting Odds: 11-20

Quarterbacks again dominate the group just outside the top 10 in the Heisman Trophy odds, but receivers Travis Hunter and Jeremiah Smith provide a couple of intriguing options as well. Hunter plays both offense and defense, a feat impressive enough on its own, and could stand to play his way into the conversation with a big year. It’ll be interesting to see how things shake up with many more weeks to play.
