Dallas made a major shift this afternoon with the decision to mutually part ways with offensive coordinator Kellen Moore. Considering his age and success, Moore may not have to look far for work and, apparently, he may not have to wait that long either.

Per Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network and NFL.com, Moore plans to speak with the Chargers about their open OC position. It comes as no surprise as the Cowboys had already given Los Angeles permission to speak with him earlier this offseason but, now, the path is fully clear for the two sides to potentially discuss an agreement.

The Chargers were one of the teams that fired their offensive coordinator this offseason. After their disastrous loss to Jacksonville in the AFC Wild Card, LA fired Joe Lombardi from their staff. They also let go of passing game coordinator and quarterback coach Shane Day. With Brandon Staley still on as head coach, that left him without someone to work with his young star QB in Justin Herbert. That’s what makes Moore such an attractive potential option.

However, Moore will be a hot commodity with him now away from Dallas. Besides the Chargers, Rapoprt has already reported that Tampa Bay is also interested in hiring him as their next offensive coordinator too. Regardless of that, though, it sounds as if LA will have their fair shot at Moore as a quality option to add to their staff.

McCarthy to take over playcalling duties with Cowboys parting with Moore

As the Dallas Cowboys will move on without offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, coach Mike McCarthy will take over play-calling duties. The Cowboys made the surprise announcement that they would be looking for a new offensive coordinator just one week after they were eliminated from the playoffs — and a new report indicates that McCarthy will call plays next season instead of his coordinator.

“Mike McCarthy to call plays as Cowboys part ways with offensive coordinator Kellen Moore,” explained Dallas Morning News‘ David Moore.

Although the team gave no indication who would be taking over as the new offensive coordinator, the reveal that McCarthy was assuming the new role seems to indicate that McCarthy believes his performance as a play caller could be the push Dallas needs to reach a Super Bowl season.
