Kyle Larson opens up about recent on-track struggles: 'It's definitely the toughest stretch'

There is no denying it, ever since the Indy-Charlotte double this season, Kyle Larson has not been the same on Sundays. The NASCAR champion has struggled to find his speed on the track again, but hasn’t given up on the season.
Kyle Larson had three wins and five additional top-fives in the first 12 races of the season. Since the Indy 500 and Coca-Cola 600 double DNF, he hasn’t had the same success. He has no wins in the last eight races, only one top-five, and two other top-10 finishes. He has three finishes of P35 or worse in that time.
Speaking to the media at Dover, Larson opened up about his struggles. The driver, who won the High Limit race at Eldora on Thursday and caused controversy with David Gravel last night, could turn things around this weekend at Dover.
“It’s definitely the toughest stretch,” Larson said, via Dustin Albino of Jayski. “When you look at results but even car speed where we rank – I don’t know where we rank, but I can’t imagine it’s at the top.”
There is some optimism from Kyle Larson this weekend. He knows that things have been rough lately, but there is always a chance to have a great run and get back on the right track.

“It’s all snowballed into the next week, and it’s been tough to get out of the rut,” Larson continued. “I think through it all, I do believe we will come out the other side even [stronger]. That’s what every team hopes, anyways. I’m glad that we’re here at Dover. You never know how the weekend is going to turn out, but statistically it’s been a great track for us.”
Kyle Larson can bounce back at any moment
There really isn’t much of a concern for Kyle Larson as much as it is frustration. This team knows that they should be having better runs. But when you can’t build momentum or consistency, you get behind the chains and things start to fall apart week to week.
The good thing is that this No. 5 team has Larson behind the wheel and Cliff Daniels on the pit box, a win is just around the corner. Dover is a track that Larson has had success at in the past. However, he has yet to win at the Monster Mile with Hendrick.
Last season, Larson finished P2. He has five finishes of P6 or better in the last six races at Dover. We will see if he can muster up a comeback this weekend or if it will be another struggle. Even if he doesn’t win, which will be difficult from his starting position, a solid top-five run would do wonders for this team and its confidence.
