One of the biggest complaints many golf fans have had with LIV Golf recently was that they couldn’t watch it on TV. Well, the tour recently fixed that by signing a television deal with CW. However, they’ve still had to work out the kinks recently. The startup tour ran into a problem this weekend at the LIV Golf event in Tulsa, Oklahoma. A lengthy weather delay and a playoff forced this weekend’s event to run long. When the tournament went over the allotted time slot on CW, the network switched to different programming. And viewers unfortunately had to miss out on a playoff finish between Cam Smith and Dustin Johnson.

The incident was widely mocked across the country. It even drew a remark from Jim Nantz during the first round of this year’s PGA Championship. Days after the big mistake, the CW and LIV came to an agreement in order to not let another situation like that one happen again.

LIV Golf statement on issue with CW affiliate stations

“The CW confirmed with the affiliate body—all 210 local stations—that in the event that this happens again, all stations will continue carrying the LIV Tournament through to completion,” the network said in a statement released by LIV Golf. “LIV Golf and CW Sports are learning together what will delight our fans and grow our franchises, and we’re proud that we are nimble and able to make adjustments as these learnings are made available.”

At the end of LIV’s Tulsa event, a majority of their affiliates dropped the end of the tournament in favor of other programs. Some of those included infomercials and re-runs. Some people watched Young Sheldon. Others started watching Black-ish. Another said the CW made the switch to a “taped magazine show,” whatever that means. Another market ran a rerun of S.W.A.T.

LIV Golf originally announced their partnership with The CW back in January. Dustin Johnson won last weekend’s event in Tulsa, after battling it out with Cam Smith and Branden Grace in a three-man playoff. The three players tied at -17 after three rounds. Johnson finished -1 after the playoff, making him the winner. He won $4 million in Tulsa, although the amount is much smaller than that after taxes. Johnson was one of the biggest names the tour poached from the PGA Tour, among several others. He’s finally back in the winner’s circle after dealing with a back injury recently. Johnson injured his back in a bedroom incident with his wife, Paulina Gretzky.
