Michael Block was a long way from his home in Mission Viejo, California on Sunday, but the 46-year-old might’ve actually heard the roars coming from Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club. When the PGA club pro drained a hole-in-one in the final round, the room hosting a watch party at his home club exploded.

Block carded one of the most improbable hole-in-one shots you’ll ever witness. On the 15th hole at Oak Hill Country Club, he sent his first shot into the bottom of the cup on the fly. It sent everyone in attendance into a frenzy.

Things back at Arroyo Trabuco? Pretty crazy, too. It was, without question, the shot of the tournament. And to do it during the final round of the PGA Championship? Unbelievable.

Here’s the scene from Block’s home club back in California:

An absolutely incredible atmosphere. And it’s fitting, considering the absolutely incredible tournament Block played over the past four days.

That impressive hole-in-one helped Block finish inside the top-15 of this year’s PGA Championship. That means he’s secured a spot in next year’s major.

Block shot even par in each of his first three rounds. Entering Sunday’s final round, he sat six shots back of leader (and eventual winner) Brooks Koepka. His pairing to close out the tournament? PGA Tour superstar Rory McIlroy.

Block scored a 1-over-par 71 in his final round to finish at +1 for the tournament. He was part of a three-way tie for 15th with Eric Cole and Tyrrell Hatton.

Michael Block emotional in post-round interview

Block was the lone PGA club pro of 20 to make the weekend cut for the PGA Championship this weekend. That, alone, is an incredible accomplishment. To be in contention on the final day and lock up a spot in next year’s tournament? That’s arguably the best story in golf right now.

After the round, Block was understandably emotional while doing his post-tournament interview.

“It’s amazing. I’m living a dream, I’m making sure I enjoy this moment. I’ve learned that after my 46 years of life that, it’s not gonna get better than this. No way. No chance in hell,” Block said, with tears in his eyes.

Block didn’t go without thanking his playing partner and everyone else for their incredible support throughout the week.

“Rory was awesome, man. Everyone was awesome,” Block said. “I can’t thank everyone enough for being so cool to me. And cheers to the 29,000 PGA professionals in the world. This is for you guys.”
