Daniel Jones is going to have a new weapon at his disposal next year. The New York Giants traded up to draft Tennessee‘s Jalin Hyatt, adding one of the SEC’s best wide receivers. If Jones has anyone to thank for Hyatt being on the roster, it’s head coach Brian Daboll.

New York was considering taking Hyatt in the second round but could not pass up on Minnesota center John Michael Schmitz. The offensive line has been a work in progress for the Giants and suring up the middle was top priority — even more so after giving their franchise quarterback a long-term contract extension.

Once the third round rolled around and Hyatt was still on the board, Daboll decided to get aggressive. He somehow facilitated a trade of his own, communicating with Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay. A simple text got the ball rolling before the two general managers made the move official.

New York moved up a few spots and got Hyatt. An incredible moment that both the Giants and Daboll will tell for years to come. Especially if Hyatt becomes a star for the franchise.

Los Angeles wound up making good use of their own picks. They selected Wake Forest defensive tackle Kobie Turner in the third round and with the extra fourth rounder, Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett. Both teams will likely consider the trade a win-win.

But Daboll is extremely proud with pulling the move off.

Brian Daboll to have exciting receiver in Jalin Hyatt

Like nearly everyone at Tennessee last season, Hyatt had a breakout season. Head coach Josh Heupel had the Vols rolling on offense, leading to a successful weekend in Kansas City in the NFL Draft.

Hyatt played in 12 games for Tennessee in 2022, hauling in 67 receptions for 1,267 yards and 15 touchdowns. His efforts were good enough to win the Biletnikoff Award, the first in the program’s storied history. Some impressive players — Marvin Harrison Jr. and Xavier Hutchinson — were who Hyatt beat out.

Now, the Giants will be hoping his game translates to the next level. Daboll had a breakout offense of his own in New York last season. General manager Joe Schoen has invested in the future of the franchise as well. Adding somebody such as Hyatt to the equation makes the upcoming years even more exciting for those in the Meadowlands.
