Packers make Aaron Jones special jersey to hold ashes of his father
Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones now has a way to keep the ashes of his father close to him during games. Thanks to some ingenuity from the Packers staff, Jones will keep his father tucked away in a pocket right above his heart.
The former UTEP running back previously kept his dad’s ashes in a medallion he wore during games. However, he lost it during a Week 2 matchup against the Detroit Lions. Trainer Bryan Engel later found it in the end zone, but the Packers didn’t want to risk Jones losing such a treasured item.
That’s when equipment manager Gordon Batty got the idea to sew a pocket on the inside of the running back’s jersey. Now Aaron Jones keeps the ashes tucked there, ensure their safekeeping and allowing him to keep his father near.
“He put a pocket right on the left side,” Jones said Friday, pointing just above his heart. “So I can just drop it in there and not have to worry about it falling out. So I can play with it.”

Jones kept the medallion in the pocket during a Week 3 win against the San Francisco 49ers. He is grateful for the chance to keep the medallion with him at all times, and said he doesn’t plan on going a day without it.
“I think it’s something I’ll continue to do, just keep my dad with me everywhere I go,” Jones said. “I wear it mostly at all time. Gotta get a new chain so I haven’t been wearing it except for on Sundays, but I think it’s definitely something I’ll continue to do.”
After an embarrassing Week 1 loss to the New Orleans Saints, the Packers put together two-straight wins. They take on the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday as they look to continue their quest for a Super Bowl in 2021.
