On a fateful day in Cincinnati during a game of Major League Baseball, Pete Alonso almost pooped his pants.

That’s a true sentence, no matter how unbelievable it may be. Back on May 10, Alonso almost went from the lovable Polar Bear for the New York Mets, to damaging his proverbial white fur.

According to Alonso, the Mets first basemen had to go, and we mean he really had to go during a game against the Reds, but he was leading off the next half inning. All of this was due to a mistimed morning coffee ahead of an afternoon showdown.

That’s when Alonso decided in order to get to the bathroom as soon as possible, he was swinging at the first pitch thrown to him, no matter where it was on the plate.

“I mistimed my pregame coffee. Mistimed it. I had it too close to game time,” Alonso said, via Foul Territory. “And then I’m running, doing my sprints and then I throw in the middle of the first inning, I’m like goodness gracious, this is not good.

“So I was hitting the top of the second, I was leading off the inning. I said I don’t care where this pitch is, this at-bat is ending first pitch. Because I need to go.”

Of course, the story goes the only way the story can go. Alonso hits a bomb, ties the game up at 1-1 and runs straight to the bathroom afterwards.

“As soon as I touch home plate, it was straight to the bathroom,” Alonso added. “No high fives, straight to the bathroom.

“… That was best-case but dude, honestly, if I had to run the bases, honestly I would’ve gotten picked off on purpose or something. I would’ve had to go so bad.”

More on Pete Alonso, New York Mets

Just an absolutely golden story from one of the best players in the major leagues. Not everyone is giving you that kind of insight into what goes on during a game.

Regardless of his stomach troubles, it looks like Alonso has figured something out in 2023. He’s always been a tremendous power hitter, but he’s been slashing at a torrid pace this season, already amassing 20 home runs and 46 RBIs before the calendar even turns to June.

Not only is Pete Alonso one of the best power hitters in the league, but he’s become one of the best overall hitters in the MLB. The Mets love their Polar Bear, and it looks like they’ll have a good one for a long, long time over at first base.
