Report: Carolina Panthers releasing DE Jadeveon Clowney

The Carolina Panthers are releasing edge rusher Jadeveon Clowney, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN. Clowney joined the Panthers last year after spending the 2023 season with the Baltimore Ravens.
Flower pointed out that the Panthers were looking to trade Clowney before releasing him. Clowney was due $8.525M in salary, $2M of which is guaranteed,” Fowler wrote. “Panthers explored a potential trade on draft week, as [David Newton] previously mentioned, and went heavy on pass rushers on Day 2 of draft. Three-time Pro Bowler now a free agent.”
Clowney had a solid season with the Panthers in 2024. He played in 14 games and tallied 46 tackles, nine tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks and four passes defended. Playing for the Panthers was special for Jadeveon Clowney as he played college football at South Carolina and grew up in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
“That’s a great feeling to be back home,” Clowney said back in September, per WCNC Charlotte. “I’ve been watching my whole life before I even became into the NFL. I used to watch the Panthers all the time on TV, because I grew up right down the road in Rock Hill, probably the only game that was on TV. Now playing here, it’s great.”

Looking at Jadeveon Clowney’s NFL career
Clowney entered the NFL in 2014 when the Houston Texans selected him No. 1 overall in the draft. He spent five seasons with the Texans and went to the Pro Bowl three times during that span. Clowney was named to the All-Pro Second Team in 2016 after posting 52 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, six sacks and two passes defended.
Before the start of the 2019 season, the Texans traded Clowney to the Seattle Seahawks. During the 2019 season, Clowney recorded 31 tackles, seven tackles for loss, three sacks and one interception in 13 games. Clowney then played for the Tennessee Titans in 2020 and the Cleveland Browns in 2021 and 2022.
The Ravens signed Clowney in August 2023, and he had one of his best seasons. The 32-year-old notched 43 tackles, nine tackles for loss, 9.5 sacks and five passes defended. Clowney helped the Ravens reach the AFC Championship and had a sack in the team’s loss against the Kansas City Chiefs.
