Robert Griffin III offers advice for Browns HC Kevin Stefanski after historic Shedeur Sanders performance
Shedeur Sanders has started three consecutive games for the Cleveland Browns. Robert Griffin III believes that streak should extend to the end of the season.
Sanders played well in Sunday’s 31-29 defeat to the Tennessee Titans. He completed 23-of-42 passes for 364 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Griffin has seen enough that he thinks head coach Kevin Stefanski should announce Sanders as the permanent starter.
“Shedeur Sanders just had the Cleveland Browns offense looking the best it has in YEARS,” Griffin wrote on X. “… Kevin Stefanski should commit to him being the full-time starter the rest of the year.”
This was certainly the best performance of Sanders’ brief NFL career. In addition to his numbers through the air, he led the Browns with 29 rushing yards, including a seven-yard score.
Sanders nearly brought the Browns back from a two-score deficit. He hit tight end Harold Fannin III for a seven-yard score to make it a two-point game with 1:03 remaining in the game. The Browns, however, failed on their two-point conversion attempt. Sanders was not on the field for the attempt.

“If I’m out there any play, I wish I would always have the ball in my hand, but that’s not what football is,” Sanders said after the game, via USA Today. “Sometimes you got to run the ball, sometimes you got to kick a field goal. … I know we practiced something and executed in practice, and we just didn’t seem to execute it today. So, I would never go against what the call was or anything.”
Shedeur Sanders shows obvious progress in Week 14 loss to Titans
Cleveland is now 3-10 but it has to be encouraging to see Sanders showing progress. After all, he started the season third on the depth chart behind Joe Flacco and Dillon Gabriel. The latter became the starter after Flacco was traded to the Cincinnati Bengals. Sanders stepped in as starter after Gabriel suffered a concussion in Week 11.
Stefanski has continued to roll with Sanders, who last month became the first Browns rookie quarterback to win his first start since 1995. Stefanski talked after the game about Sanders’ performance.
“He fought throughout the game, which we knew he would,” Stefanski said. “Obviously with any young player, there’s going to be ups and downs, and I though there were some really, really, really good moments. He’ll keep learning from some of the plays he wants back, but [there were] some really good moments.”
