Victor Wembanyama injury update: Unfortunate news emerges on Spurs star following missed game vs. Kings
According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the San Antonio Spurs will be without star player Victor Wembanyama for a “few weeks.” Wembanyama is currently dealing with a left calf strain, initially causing him to miss Sunday’s win over the Sacramento Kings. Now, the Spurs will get used to being without him for a good chunk of time.
“San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama has a left calf strain and is expected to be sidelined for a few weeks, sources tell ESPN,” Charania said via X.
Shortly after the report, San Antonio made the news official. They released a statement on the situation but did not provide any kind of timeline.
“The San Antonio Spurs today announced that Victor Wembanyama underwent an MRI that revealed he has a left calf strain,” the team said via Marc Stein. “The injury occurred in Friday night’s game against the Golden State Warriors. The team will provide updates as appropriate.”
The Spurs will be back in action on Tuesday night, hosting the Memphis Grizzlies. You have to imagine the organization wants him back before Christmas Day, which is around five weeks from now. San Antonio will spend the holiday in Oklahoma City, setting up a Western Conference showdown vs. the Thunder.

More on Victor Wembanyama, start to 2025-26 season with Spurs
Everyone knew a special talent was making its way to San Antonio when the Spurs officially drafted Wembanyama with the No. 1 overall. We have never seen somebody with his size and skill grace the court, meaning something new was set to come to the NBA.
Wembanyama lived up to the hype in his first season, winning Rookie of the Year and being named first-team all-defense. Unfortunately, his sophomore campaign was cut short due to injury.
Now in his third season, the numbers looked good for Wembanyama through 12 games. He is averaging 26.2 points, 10.9 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game. Maybe the most incredible stat is his 3.6 blocks per game, leading the NBA. If Wembanyama can get back on the court, more awards are surely heading his way.
However, NBA players must compete in at least 65 games in order to be considered. This was a rule implemented by the league in order to help counter load management. Unfortunately, somebody like Wembanyama might suffer due to an actual injury. Either way, the Spurs are hoping to get him back on the court as soon as possible.
