5-star Cam Williams Commits to Duke: What the 6-11 power forward brings to Jon Scheyer’s Blue Devils

Jon Scheyer secured his third commitment of the 2026 cycle on Friday as Cam Williams commits to Duke. The 6-foot-11 power forward ultimately chose the Blue Devils over programs like Arizona’s and Texas. Williams joins Rivals five-star guard Bryson Howard and four-star center Maxime Meyer in this class.
Let’s discuss what Duke is getting with five-star Cam Williams.
Who is Cam Williams?
Cam Williams is a 6-foot-11 power forward at Phoenix (AZ) St. Mary’s. He is the No. 8 overall player in the Rivals Industry Ranking and top-ranked power forward. Williams is ranked No. 13 overall in the 2026 Rivals150.
Williams is entering his senior year at St. Mary’s where he averaged 18.0 points, 11.2 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 2.6 blocks per game. He played this summer with the Compton Magic program on the Adidas 3SSB Circuit.
”I would say I like a little bit like Evan Mobley, but I think I shoot a little bit better,” Williams told Rivals. “Over the last few months, I’ll say my IQ has gotten better, I’m reading the game better and making faster reads and just getting stronger.”
What are the Blue Devils getting with Williams?
It is difficult to watch Cam Williams play and not see the upside that he brings to the table. This is part of the reason why he was a Rivals outlier among the top-35 prospects in the country since last year. Listed at 6-foot-11, he brings great length, an intriguing skill set, and intriguing athletic fluidity.
So, while his natural physical disposition catches your eye, you see the skill he brings with that. Williams prefers facing the basket on the offensive end. He is a more than capable spot shooter, knocking down close to 50 percent of his catch-and-shoot threes this summer.
With that, Williams has shown flashes of straight-line driving the basket to finish above the rim. He has good athletic burst with a head of steam. While he is going to need to continuing tightening things to he’ll find more consistency, you see the flashes of him pushing the break with the ball in his hands, and you see some advantages he creates in the floor.
Defensively, you see the upside he brings with some athletic fluidity. He has good positional size and plus length. He will need to continue adding a strength and learning his leverage points. Also, he can play a little upright at times which does zap a little bit of his athleticism at times. But as he gets accustomed to the physicality, there are a lot of pieces to appreciate on that end of the floor.

Looking at the makeup of Duke’s last two teams, a lot of what they did ran through their fours (Cooper Flagg and Cam Boozer). Obviously, Flagg’s and Boozer’s games are very different, but positionally, they were at least similar. Williams is being recruited by Duke to fill that same position. He is more of an upside play than the previous two, but he does bring more size and length. The makeup of every team is different, so it will be interesting to watch how William’s is molded to fit with his version of the Blue Devils.
In his words
Cam Williams on Duke:
“My visit there was good. I liked their system probably the most because they play an NBA style of offense. They’re five-out and everybody’s guarding one through five. It’s positionless basketball, and that’s how it’s going to be at the next level. So that’s what I really liked about them. All the coaches there were cool.
“I was there for their Countdown to Craziness, it was crazy. There was a lot of people. It’s a small gym. I was expecting it to be bigger because, you know, on TV it looks big. But yeah, it was so crazy, though. It was packed out. And the support there is crazy. I love it. The atmosphere was Insane. It was insane. All those people coming in, it was nothing like it.”
Williams on his process:
”A good environment; a school that’s going to get me the next level and just they’re going to max me out. So, yeah, I just want to be ready for the next level, and I want to win. I want win a national championship.
“I’m going to be looking for a play style that I fit well in, you know? So, it could be any of those schools, but as long as it’s the best for me and it helps me showcase my game and that helps us win, that’s all that matters.”
