Theodore (Ala.) linebacker JJ Bush received offers from 36 schools. LSU was a big offer for Bush, and the Tigers were trending, but Arkansas stayed consistent and the Razorbacks landed his commitment.

“It was the way they recruited me,” Bush told Rivals about what led him to commit to Arkansas. “They were genuine, consistent and real. The coaches made me feel like a true priority, and they showed a full plan for me on and off the field. That stood out.

“This was one of the hardest choices I’ve ever had to make. I’ve got love for LSU, and I respect everyone over there, but in the end, I had to do what was best for me and my future — and that’s Arkansas.”

LSU had the buzz for months. Many thought the decision was made many weeks ago, and maybe it was, but Arkansas landed on top when it was most important.

“The change really started happening about a week before my commitment. I had been thinking about both schools a lot, but something about Arkansas just kept pulling me in stronger every day.

“The coaching staff, the player development, the energy in Fayetteville and just how real the program feels pushed them to the top for me. It’s a place I can grow as a player and as a man.”

Bush felt at home at Arkansas

Bush has been in Fayetteville multiple times throughout his recruitment. He has attended a game and he was there for an unofficial visit.

“Each time it felt more like home. I thought about it and I made the call right before my announcement. I talked it through with my family, I prayed on it and it just felt right.”

Travis Williams and Barry Odom were heavily involved with Bush’s recruitment. Those two, along with Sam Pittman made an impact on this decision.

“They kept it 100% real with me from the beginning,” Bush said. “We built a relationship that’s way deeper than football.

“Coach Pittman is a real one too. He’s honest, down-to-earth and truly cares about his players. He’s the kind of head coach you want to play for and go to war for.”
