2026 QB Brodie McWhorter visits Mississippi State

Kingston (Ga.) Cass three-star quarterback Brodie McWhorter was one of the many prospects who decommitted from West Virginia following the firing of head coach Neal Brown.

The 2026 signal-caller is once again looking for his home at the college level and this weekend he got a look at Mississippi State. He got to spend time with head coach Jeff Lebby and Bulldogs QBs coach Matt Holecek in Starkville.

McWhorter owns over 20 Power Four offers and is coming off a 6-5 season that saw Cass win three of its final five games. He’ll look to continue improving his stock ahead of his senior campaign.

Earlier this month, he was visited by Indiana QBs coach Chandler Whitmer, as the Hoosiers also look to make a move in the 6-foot-1, 190-pounder’s recruitment. McWhorter backed off his commitment to West Virginia on Dec. 2.

“Mountaineer nation, when I committed in June I never thought that I would have to write this. After talks with my family, due to recent coaching changes we feel that it is best to decommit at this time. While this decision wasn’t easy – we think it is best for my future,” McWhorter wrote announcing his decision.

“West Virginia will always hold a special place in my heart and will still sit at the top of my list! I can’t thank coach Brown, coach Allen, and the rest of the coaching and recruiting staff enough for everything they have done for me and my family these past five months. This is something we never expected but is apart of the journey. Please respect my decision.”

He is the No. 454 overall prospect and No. 31 QB in the 2026 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 52 junior in Georgia.

Mississippi State has four commits in its 2026 recruiting class, as of Jan. 12. Tupelo (Miss.) High teammates, three-star running back Jaeden Hill and three-star athlete Iverson McCoy, currently headline. They both committed to the in-state program on June 24.

The 2025 cycle saw Lebby and Co. sign Macon (Miss.) Noxubee County four-star QB KaMario Taylor, On3’s No. 30 overall recruit and No. 7 QB. Taylor sits atop a class that ranks No. 22 in the nation, per the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.
